Jul. 11th, 2006 03:43 pmI helped rescue one of our team managers from an embarrassing situation a little while ago.
They've decided to trial providing free fresh fruit (try saying that three times fast!) in the office, and Denzil - who was my supervisor until recently - was the person nominated to go up to People Services on floor twenty-two to retrieve our allocation. As he came towards our pod, Operations Manager Andrew decided it would be hysterical to rearrange a banana and two apples into a certain configuration that I'm sure it doesn't take much imagination to picture! *chuckles*
Denz was suitably amused, since there's nothing malicious intended, but I think the way others kept ensuring the fruit stayed like that got on his nerves a little. So when I offered to rescue him by taking the banana for myself, he was quite relieved.
Getting in to work today was a nightmare as there was apparently an couple of accidents around the corner from me. Traffic was backed up all down our street - which, while a main road, is not normally that busy - and there were no buses for ages. Didn't help that the previous two buses had been full of school kids and commuters, so we ended up waiting on that bus stop for about 45 minutes. And even then, the first bus that came by was a diverted bus that didn't go exactly where we were headed. So I ended up dropping Rowan at nursery about ten minutes before my shift started. Thankfully my manager was fine about it when I called ahead to give her a heads up.
As we were getting on the bus I got a call from my Mam to let me know Nan P passed away yesterday. Naturally I'm sad about it, but I'm more relieved than anything as she was really suffering. I'm gonna miss her though - she was good to me, despite the fact I wasn't really family.
Right, my shift's over and I've made up the half hour I was late getting in so I am now off to go collect my parcel! *bounces* I think I'll head to the Post Office before I get Rowan, in case they shut before the two of us can get there. You can always rely on kids to cause unforseen delays.
