(Translation - "It's St David's Day and it's snowing!")
I've always wondered why it's 'Dydd Gwŷl Dewi' and not 'Dydd Dewi Sant'....
It's been snowing off and on all day today, and it's actually been settling too! That's pretty rare in these here parts.
My Dad dragged me out of bed at 7.45 this morning, phoning me on my mother's orders to let me know Rowan's scarf and wellies were in their hallway waiting for me. My sleepy reaction was "B'uh?" and he was very amused, telling me to go look out the window. Sure enough - about half an inch of snow on my patio and everything around my district was covered.
Rowan was naturally very excited, and it started snowing again as we left the house almost an hour later.
The downside is that I was late to work because of it - got to the bus stop by nine am, despite having to call at my parents house first, but the bus was too full. Then the next bus to turn up was the one that doesn't go past the nursery, and that was fifteen minutes late.
We finally made it down to the park, in the midst of a massive snow flurry, and we walked down to the nursery while I called work on my mobile to warn them I was guaranteed to be late. Rowan was really good, even though he didn't like the snow falling on him like that.
With it being St David's Day, we all got given a Welsh Cake to eat - unfortunately they were store-bought. You can't beat my Dad's, fresh off the bakestone - even if he is English! *grins* It's a shame he doesn't make them so much anymore - he has to be 'in the mood', and hates being requested to make them for someone. Miserable bugger....
There's been the odd mention over the radio, including a group of people in a Cardiff hotel singing the national anthem down the phone - badly! Plus the daily teasing of one of the guys on my team for not only being English but with German ancestry too has increased - he gives as good as he gets with lots of anti-Welsh comments! *laughs*
I have about an hour of my shift to go, since I'm making up for my late start. Can't wait to go though - it's cool that I can get a heap of reports done, but oh am I bored....
