Michelle, ma belle.
Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble
Tres bien ensemble

That song has been in my head all afternoon, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] richardjgrayson, who remembered that I used to consider it one of my 'theme songs' many years ago.

I have several, y'see:
'Michelle', for the simple fact that's my middle name
'The Great Pretender', 'cause that really describes the way I felt growing up. And still feel today, a lot of the time.
'Nowhere Man'...yeah, I had/have a lot of self-esteem issues. Plus it reminds me of afternoons right after school when I would go over my friend Lisa's house and we'd eat 'pasta butterfiles' (farfalle, coated in butter) and watch Yellow Submarine. I only ever remember seeing the Nowhere Man scene, though, so I suspect Lisa kept it cued up or something.

I also have heaps of songs that make me think of other people, or events in my life - who doesn't? I hear the opening strains of Brian May's 'Back To The Light', I'm instantly fifteen again and leaning against a wall at Aston Villa football ground in Birmingham watching the man himself come on stage.

Other times, songs give me ideas for fanfics, or plot bunnies for the [livejournal.com profile] jla_watchtower. It's a pleasant kind of frustration when you hear a song and think of a scene - usually because you're not able to write it down at that moment, so you have to try and hold on to the idea until you can. It's bad enough something is always lost between your brain and the pen and paper/keyboard anyway....

Today's been a wierd day, all in all. The workmen arrived at eight am to start replacing my gas boiler and ohmigod the noise! They had to drill holes in my kitchen wall to replace the ventilation. It took them until half past three in the afternoon, and they worked pretty much solidly. Must have taken breaks in a rotation or something 'cause there was no let up.

So I spent the entire day sat at my computer talking to friends and messing around in the [livejournal.com profile] lunatic_cafe, freezing cold 'cause they had my back door open to clear the rubbish easier. And my back door's in my living room. If I get a cold on the weekend, that's why. Plus I was starving as I hadn't eaten before they came and they pretty much commandeered my kitchen. Plus I have an irrational reluctance to go in any room where there's workmen doing stuff, so I just could not go in and get myself something.

Silly, I know.

So now, I have hot water and working radiators! I'm sat on my sofa and I can feel the heat coming off the radiator beind me. I'm still shivering a little right now, but what an improvement.

And they fitted some radiators in the bathroom and toilet too.

This is the point at which the days suddenly become warmer, and I no longer need to use my central heating....
