Ramblings about the past week....

All in all, my weeks are pretty dull and un-eventful. That doesn't mean nothing happens - just very little that I feel is worth mentioning 'cause it would bore anyone that's not me. And sometimes it would bore me too.

But I write in my journal as much to remember things at a later date, as to communicate with my online friends. So, once in a while I'll ramble about boring crap. With all the love in the world, my friends, deal. *grins*

So, monday. So-so day in work - everyone was getting used to the absence of three members of the team, two of whom were sat near me and fairly vocal. Mondays are always hell as there's the weekend backlog to get through. Plus I was about ready to kill someone at the local Royal Mail dispatch office for reasons I've mentioned previously.

I felt fairly low at the end of the day, so I went and sat in Starbucks and did a little writing in a notepad while I drank a hot chocolate. (I can't stand the taste of coffee, but I like the smell.) Had an uncomfortable moment when one of the town's vagabonds - a harmless, but persistant old geezer - tried to come into the coffee shop to beg for money. He got deflected initially by one of the barristas, who seems to have the knack of diplomatically getting shot of him. He was back ten minutes later, though he didn't come too far in so thankfully he never came near me. He often came into the Burger King I worked at as a teenager, and used to bother us in the pub during the sci-fi club's meetings too, so I've come to dread seeing him.

On my way out of the coffee shop, I bumped into my comic guy, Kris, and another friend from the sci-fi club. Kris wanted to show me his latest DVD purchases (any excuse to gloat! *grin*) so I hung around and had another chocolate with them. They bought me a grande, rather than my usual tall - I felt like a hobbit or something, drinking out of that massive mug! I had to hold it with both hands! *giggles* I left just in time to go collect Rowan - he was the last one there, so the remaining staff were just waiting for me before they could go home *amused shame*

When we got off the bus, we were pleasantly surprised to see my Dad standing there. At first I assumed he'd been on the bus in front of ours, and so had waited on the bus stop to say hi. Turns out he'd left his keys at work and needed to borrow mine - and he'd been stood there waiting for me for about two and a half hours! I thought that was just hysterical.

I don't recall anything special happening on tuesday, aside from discovering that not only are Toonami showing Static Shock again (very much of the yay, as it means at least half an hour's cuddle time with my boy, plus they're new ones I've not seen) but also Quantum Leap and Due South are being re-run on ITV3 straight after. This makes things difficult with the bedtime routine, so I usually end up paying scant attention to Quantum Leap, but I'm thoroughly back on my Due South kick again. I just wish I'd realised before they moved on to season three! But then again, this gives me a chance to find out what was so special about RayK. *sighs at the adorable mountie, but misses RayV very much*

Wednesday I rushed Rowan home so we could pick up [livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum's dvd from the post office and I got Rowan to bed as early as I could get away with so I could watch it. I think he must have been very tired, 'cause he gave me very little trouble that night. Very good film too - definitely going on my Amazon shopping list.

I'm already forgetting most of everything else that happened last week. I keep thinking there was something memorable about friday involving Rowan, but it's gone. I'm sure I'll remember once I'm tucked up in bed.

Saturday didn't involve much. Mam and I did a little shopping, then we headed back to her place and Rowan played games on her laptop. He's getting scarily competant on that thing - he can type his own name and navigate through the BBC's CBeebies website. He just needs help with a few of the tougher games, generally the ones that require good mouse control (which is the whole point, so he learns the skill) or needs him to be able to actually read. I made him a profile on my desktop computer, as it's only a matter of time before he's using it as much as me - he already turns it on by himself, usually before he bothers to ask me if he can play a game.

I also got a letter through on saturday morning to let me know he's been accepted into my old primary school, which is around the corner from his nursery. This is really good as it means he'll have friends already when he starts, as a few of them will be going there, and the nursery have an arrangement to collect a few of the kids after school so I won't have to worry too much about collecting him straight away for a while.

It was a really good school when I went there - the only one I have fond memories of - so I hope it's just as good an experience for him. It's also in a genuine old redbrick school building - built in 1891, I think - rather than these horrid sixties school buildings that look like a combination of an office complex and a prison.

Sunday, we woke up to discover snow again. This is almost unprecedented, I can't remember when it last snowed this frequently. But it also means that the road conditions weren't good enough for my father-in-law to come fetch Rowan, so he stayed with me for the day. He was pretty upset about this at first, as he was looking forward to playing in the snow up on the Valleys, but we managed a few minutes outside in our own garden before the rain started. It was almost all gone by the evening, between the rain and the winter sunshine.

We had a lazy day, Rowan playing computer games again while I read, and we watched the dvd of 'Nanny McPhee' that I borrowed from work for him. Actually a pretty good movie, if incredibly predictable. Had me laughing my head off many times.

I've been feeling very tired all weekend, but that's as much due to my inability to actually go to bed as anything else. I really should just step away from the computer at about ten in the evening... Thankfully I've booked some time off work in the middle of April, and that can't come fast enough let me tell you!

I'm actually dreading April as it's a horribly expensive, stressful month for me. I have seven - yes, seven birthdays to deal with, plus Easter. And it's when my annual review becomes due at work, and I've dreaded them every time. My performance there is always pretty shaky.

I have the cheque to replace my bedroom carpet and the linoleum in the bathroom, but I can't do anything till they've decided if they're gonna do anything about my bedroom furniture. I really hope they do, as it's all natural pine and they've been sat on a damp carpet since August. Only a few things have shown any actual damage - the stuff on the opposite wall to where the mould came in, ironically - but I really don't feel comfortable with going back to it. Added to that, a some of the damp furniture got placed on top of my mattress when the decorators cleaned up my room. So I need a new matress at the very least, as well as replacing my ottoman and the storage system my TV was resting on - they got really mouldy.

Plus, I found out why my emailed updates from work haven't been getting through - IT have only gone and changed my email address on me again! Instead of it being my first name, a dot, and then my second name, it's now the same as my windows username. Most people have this type of address, so they haven't noticed, but people like me who randomly got the other - better, in my opinion - format are now gonna get a bit of a shock.

Le sigh.

Ah well. I think I'm babbled out for now.

RayK is the glorious shot of hyperkenetic woobie that eases the pain of no RayV.
