gothams3rdrobin: (Joe Talbot in snow)

It's my Uncle John's birthday tomorrow, so Mam, Rowan and I headed up to Brecon to see him. Since we also had some snow over the last few days (typically, none of it settled in Cardiff - it rarely does) we took Rowan's sled with us. We tried to get him one this time last year, when there was enough snow on the Brecon Beacons, but they'd sold out. My Aunty Anne got us one afterwards, to put aside, and this is the first chance we've had since to try it out.

At first we weren't sure if there was gonna be enough snow left - the news reported that the Beacons road was closed yesterday due to poor conditions, but it was a bright sunny day today. And we didn't encounter any snow till we were almost out of Merthyr Tydfil, which is where the South Wales Valleys meet the Brecon Beacons National Park, in Mid Wales.

The Beacons themselves weren't especially snow-covered either, along the mountain road, except at my favourite corner where all the waterfalls are. This is where the Storey Arms Centre is located, for people who like outdoor activities. So we happily pulled over and got Rowan into his wellies and wrapped up warm.

This is Rowan with my mother - we were still trying to encourage him that this would be fun...

In the end I had to ride with him....

There was no stopping him after that and we had to keep taking him further up the mountain....

Rowan had a great time once he got over his initial nerves, and told us so in no uncertain terms once we were all bundled back into the car!

We then carried on to Brecon itself, where my aunt and uncle run their own chip shop/cafe. Mam always ends up helping out while she's there!

My Aunty Anne

Rowan loves it at the cafe as he always gets to eat his Uncle John's chippies, and my Aunty Anne introduced him to hot chocolate, which was just what the doctor ordered after playing in the snow!

If anyone wants to see pictures of the mountains themselves, please feel free to look at the Photobucket sub-album the pics are in.

After that we headed back into the Valleys to vist my sister and her family, then down into the Vale to see my grandparents in Barry. I think today was the first saturday in ages my mother has taken us places and we haven't ended up doing some shopping in an ASDA! That's mostly because we had to pop into Tesco between visting Sarah and my grandparents, and I decided I wanted to visit Morrisons 'cause they're the only store I know that sells the Go-Cat cat food that's specifically for indoor cats.

Hee - and how appropriate is this icon! *giggles*

In other news, I keep forgetting to mention that I updated my website last week! *faints* It doesn't have much on it right now - mostly just some very bad fanfic I wrote over the last ten years. It has a new URL these days, as I uploaded it on my current ISP's server, and I haven't included the mini-sites that were works-in-progress. Maybe I'll put them back up sometime...when they actually have content. The one about Cardiff, for starters.
