Called into the video store on the way home tonight - which is always a bad idea. I decided to go peruse the music section, see what Tom Waits CDs they had in stock. I found one that looks to be a Greatest Hits of sorts, but I wasn't fully decided if I would pick it up or not. Then, as I was walking away, I looked up and there was a special display of his cds, as well as a book of quotes.

I have always been a believer in fate.

Then I decided to head upstairs and look through the dvd section - another bad idea. I'd been up there a minute, and what do I see but 'S.W.A.T' - a movie Josh Charles was in. Not one I was all that enthused about seeing, but it is kinda interesting to see your favourite actors in different roles and I heard he turns out to be a bad guy in this one. Plus, it was in the sale *grins*

On the way out, I spotted 'Four Brothers' - another one of his. But it's full price, and again not the kind of movie I actively seek out. So I left it there.

So now I'm watching my new dvd, grinning stupidly every time Josh is on the screen.

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum? I got the Felicity Huffman interview you sent me in the post today - thank you :-) Damn, she looked good at that award ceremony *envious* And I shall be downloading that Tom Waits song soon *chuckles* Awesome!

I had long wondered whether that was Josh Charles in your icon.

He's adorable, isn't he? When I saw him in S.W.A.T. it took me forever to remember him I'd seen him in Dead Poet's Society, one of my favorite films.

Indeed that is Josh - I think about eighty percent of my iconage right now is Josh in various roles. Such a cutey and a good, good actor. I'm even enjoying him in this role.

I would love to be able to go see him in the play he's doing right now in Chicago, but alas it ain't gonna happen *sigh*

WeeJosh not only Goes To The Bad in SWAT - a movie I have, to my shame, now seen so often I no longer register how bad it is - but dies an ignominious death. This doesn't bother me much, as it's at least his fourth, to my knowledge. (I think he dies in Four Brothers too - which I have on order. Ahem. Yes, it's most embarrassing.

Hope you enjoy the Tom Waits. He really isn't to everyone's taste (most people's, probably), but the ones who do like him tend to be obsessive about it.

And I'm glad the cuttings arrived safely.

I was cringing at the death scene...but all in all I wasn't too horrified by the movie. There just wasn't enough 'supposedly good' Josh in it *grins*

We have a DVD club at work - £3 per month, and you can borrow a disk every day if you're so inclined - and Four Brothers was on the list we had to vote from, so I put it down as one of my choices *chuckles* I know I'm not going to like it, so I'd rather borrow it for the night than spent £15 on my own copy just yet.

Haven't gotten around to listening to the Tom Waits yet - I was watching S.W.A.T then turned to ABC-1 to watch Sports Night before bed (Love that episode!). But I'm looking forward to hearing it as soon as the rugrat is asleep.

Josh has possibly the worst line of the whole film in SWAT - not for lack of heavy competition - when TJ is out with a popsie and he orders 'French champagne' (!) and tells her 'I may work in the street, but I play in the stars!' And the audience vomits quietly into its handbags - did I tell you I actually paid money to see this in the cinema ...?

The commentary on the movie's quite amusing, as the director appears to be under the delusion he was making an arthouse film. Er, no. Not so much. Josh is on the commentary too, but some of the rest of the cast are making so much racket, I think he hardly gets a word in.

Yeah, I cringed at that line. I don't know if it was just me imposing my own views, but Josh didn't seem too happy with that scene either. I'd have expected a little more charm from him, you know?

I'll have to go back and listen to the commentary sometime...I prefer his voiceovers in Threesome though.

He might've been told to play it slimy, I don't know. Still, one good thing came out of that movie, the Danny-with-a-gun pics are hot. One day [livejournal.com profile] celli might actually write the spy-Danny-with-a-gun fic she's been talking about forever ...

Time to go watch Dan have his nervous breakdown!

And what gets me is that Casey can't field the question which is, after all, not all that difficult. One day I'll write that fic, which will include the line -

Casey: "He went off the script!"
Isaac: "Well, thank god you don't work in professional sports, Casey."

One day.

*laughs* That is so Casey!

I really hope you do write it - I'd love to read it.

I've two WiPs of my own I've been working on for the last fortnight, but they're not going that well - guess I shouldn't have read some of my really old stuff. Showed me just how bad I am at this....
