Remember that cat I mentioned yesterday?
Looks like she's decided we're worth giving a trial run to!
She - I assume it's a she, will find that out if she sticks around long enough for me to take her to the vet - was hanging around outside again tonight when we got back from the supermarket. As I'd decided it was time I started stocking up on litter, and had gotten a couple of trays of cat food just incase, I had another go at seeing if she wanted to come inside. It only took about ten minutes or so to encourage her all the way downstairs, and another five to let her decide if she actually wanted to come in or take the escape route out the downstairs security door.
Gave her some food, which she nommed down in moments, then opened a tin of tuna when she was still begging fifteen minutes later. Took her an hour or so to have a gulp of water, but from what I've googled that appears to be normal.
I cleared out the corner of the kitchen behind the door that used to serve as Symba's bathroom, so I could put the litter tray back down. It's actually a kitten tray which Symba used very briefly as an emergency measure between a lidded tray and a regular size ordinary tray. Hopefully there's no lingering smell of him that will put her off using it.
I gave her another chance to leave after a couple of hours, when I was taking some recycling bags upstairs. Left the front door wide open, so she could follow me if she wanted out, but she didn't seem the least bit interested.
She's incredibly affectionate and will lap up any attention you offer her. Plus she's very keen to make friends with Rowan too, which is something Symba never quite figured out.
So here's a little picspam of the new kitteh - name to be decided in due course, if she sticks around.
She's currently sleeping very happily on the other end of the sofa, having not moved since I took that last photo about ten minutes ago. She does seem very happy to be here, and very trusting of us.

If I can't have any more kids I am sure as hell having at least one cat - and this one seems happy to take the job!
