Bloody hell... almost literally! *sigh*
Symba has always had issues with his bowel movements, and it seems to get worse every nine/twelve months these days and a Vets visit inevitably ensues. This is not normally too much of a problem for me - except for the fact the PDSA PetAid hospital is so damn far away - but right now I'm not able to take him down there.
I usually qualify for PDSA treatment for him 'cause of the Housing Benefit I get towards my rent. However, this recently came up for review and they're wanting to investigate the course grant I get for my OU studies (I can get my course fees paid, plus a grant for any materials I may need, because I get Housing Benefit, so it's rather circular really) and at present have suspended my benefit. This means that not only am I having to pay full rent at the moment, I don't qualify for PDSA help.
Yesterday, Symba was bleeding from his rear end, leaving stains anywhere he sat for more than a moment, so I obviously had to get him looked at today. He's also not eating much, is extremely thirsty and passing urine a lot. Because the PDSA couldn't see him, I was left with no option but to take him to our old vet in Roath. The journey's not as bad, and if we ever get to move to Roath we could walk there - reluctantly, 'cause he's such a deadweight in his carrier! But this does mean that I've got to find the money to pay for his treatment, and not only is it the half term break but I've also been trying to save up ready for the Easter holidays as Rowan will need to go to camp then.
Anyway, the vet looked him over and thinks it may be colitus or feline IBS; Sym's on water only for the next twenty four hours - which he's not happy about - and he's got some anti-inflamatory medicine twice a day on top of the injection he got at the surgery. This leaves me forty quid poorer, and we've a follow-up appointment Wednesday morning....
*sighs*
When the day eventually comes that we've say goodbye to him and I'm finally ready to get those kittens I really want? I am so getting pet insurance. No point right now 'cause of his age and medical history.

I'm so glad my old man is a fit as a fiddle and keeps forgetting he's not a kitten any more. I do hope your boy feels better soon it's such a worry when they are ill.
