...and other catchy songs....

Went out with some of my colleagues this evening, to the Bowling alley down the Bay. I didn't bowl my best game ever - not been feeling all that clever today, as I think I'm brewing up an eye infection, and I was having trouble finding a decent-weight ball that didn't squeeze my thumb painfully.

After that, we retreated to the arcade section of the centre, where my old manager Matt proceeded to challenge his fellow manager Carly - who was back for a fortnight from her secondment in India - to a couple of rounds on the dance machine.... He narrowly beat her, which of course had him all smug for the rest of the evening *chuckles*

The rest of the night was spent in the bar area, with everyone getting more drunk as the hours passed. Everyone but me, that is, since I don't drink. My old supervisor Dean actually stayed fairly coherent tonight, which is unusual, but seventeen year old Shane got quite exhuberant - and bloody chatty! Kid was talking a mile a minute, and wouldn't give anyone any peace.

He was on and on at Carly about the India staff, and then he was chatting to me for ages, leaning into me so we could hear each other. I spent the majority of that conversation leaning away from him, to try and maintain some personal space.

He was getting on Dean's nerves after a while though, and the walk back to town was difficult. Carly and I were trying to talk to Dean, while poor Dave was letting Shane natter his ear off all the way down Lloyd George Avenue. But then of course, everyone abandoned the three of us for a drink at Carly's place down the bottom of the road. I couldn't stop 'cause I needed to get the bus home, and Dean and Shane didn't want to stay either.

So that left me to deal with them alone...

They weren't fighting, exactly. It was more a case of Dean needed Shane to shut the hell up for a little while, and leave him alone, but Shane wasn't taking his threats of physical violence seriously. But anyone who knows Dean, knows that while he's the sweetest guy on the planet when he's sober, you don't want to stress him out after he's downed a couple of bottles of wine.

Managed to get to the Bus Station in one peice, though I did have to scold them both a couple of times. I swear, I go out for the evening to get away from my maternal responsibilities for a couple of hours....*laughs*

Had a nasty moment as we walked down into the Station, as Shane got into a slight disagreement with a drunk latino guy. Luckily the guy's friend was there to help get him away from us so that we could keep on going.

Honestly - why does everyone seem so confused when I refuse alcohol? I would hate to wake up the next morning after a night like tonight, realising I'd behaved so stupidly....
