De doo run run run, de doo run run...

We started a new set of songs at the singing group today; 'De Doo Ron Ron Ron' (or whatever it's called), 'Keep on Running' and 'Dancing In The Street' - we're supposed to be providing entertainment for the start of the Cardiff and Swansea 'Race For Life' events. I don't think I'll manage to make it myself, as they're both on Sundays at about eleven, which is when Rowan's supposed to get picked up.
The Cardiff event's a week on Sunday, so we've not too much time to practise, but they've chosen some very simple, fun songs and there's not too much complexity in the harmonies. Which is a good thing, since we opened the doors to newcomers this week, after six months of being this insular little group *clings to the status quo*
I thoroughly enjoyed myself, especially as us Altos got the melody for two out of the three songs. I love harmonising, bringing that extra kick to a song, but it's so nice to just be able to belt out the lyrics once in a while! *grins*
I also have 'Dancing In The Street' on Singstar for the PS2, so I was playing on that while Rowan was at Badgers this evening!
It's half-term next week, and I've managed to arrange the week off again so I'm looking forward to a rest. Before I can do that, however, I need to get this flat presentable ready for when Rob and Jane come down on Saturday to go to the John Barrowman concert with me. Front row seats, baby! *squees and bounces* Doesn't help that Rowan's off school tomorrow too, since his teachers have a training day - but at least that means I don't have to stop to go get him! Provided I can get my arse in gear in the first place...
My sister's coming up for the weekend too, bringing Jessica with her, so it's going to be a hectic weekend in all. And likely no chance for me to go see Star Trek yet... *sigh* I wish it wasn't a 12a or I'd take Rowan. We saw a rerun of the Next Gen episode 'Relics' the other night, with the awesome Jimmy Doohan in it - Rowan gasped in delight when I told him who the old man from the transporter was. :-)
Ugh, I'm tired but I really don't want to give in yet. :-(

Date: 2009-05-22 07:16 pm (UTC)I thought our directors were being somewhat ambitious with our last set - we were doing Queen's 'Somebody To Love' in four part harmony! But it was the chorus of 'Hey Ya' that proved to be our nemesis *chuckles* One day we may get to perform it, and there will be much celebration when we do!
