I cans not has poorly cat pls?

Sym's in a bit of a state today...

While we were getting on with the morning routine, I noticed Sym getting himself into the squatting position cat's humans all come to dread the sight of. As he was mere footsteps from his litter tray - which was in a reasonable enough condition - I was rather confused by this, but something stopped me from yelling at him.

He made several more attempts over the next twenty minutes or so, but not once did he actually pass any stools. On inspecting him, I realised that the poor mite's suffering from constipation - his back passage is totally blocked up.

There wasn't the opportunity to take him to the vet today - and that always stresses him out so badly he gets worse anyway - so the only thing I could think of to do was to shut him up in the kitchen with his catbed. That way he had access to his food and tray, and if he managed to go but didn't make it to the tray on time I could at least clean the resulting mess up off the floor, rather than carpet.

When we got home and let him out, there was a mess on the kitchen floor but, alas, it was vomit. It actually had some food in it for once, rather than just bile like he's been doing off and on recently - I'm thinking it was just a stress-reaction to being shut up. He's been out all evening since - even popping outside when Rowan went out to play with a local kid. He tried to have a squat outside too, but still no joy. He's been making his discomfort known as well, poor love.

I checked in my cat health-guide and found that the suggested remedy for constipation is a dose of liquid petroleum. I actually had a bottle of this up till recently, following his last trip to the vets, but I couldn't remember the name of it earlier. Cue a dash up to ASDA to look for some, only they don't have any in stock! And I couldn't see any alternatives where I wasn't concerned about the other ingredients used.

In the end I gave him a large bowl of milk to drink, as that's always given him the runs in the past. I think he's somewhat lactose intolerant, you see. You never know, that may even things back out. He's been dozing in his cat bed all evening since, which is probably a good thing.

*sighs* Poor love. Not a nice thing to have to go through at his age.

Poor kitty! Give him a rather cautious hug from me. I hope the problem passes (in every sense) soon.
