It's less why airfares are so high, more why are places so far apart? I mean, I don't even want to drive for an hour to go to someone's birthday, and these are people I like!

Heh, I know what you mean! My best friends are either a two hour train journey away, or an eight hour flight...

I miss the days when all it took was a half-hour or so on the bus and I was knocking on their doors.
