Sammi and the shiny new toy!

Things are still progressing with the flat and the insurance claim, albiet slowly. However, I have had the settlement for an old desktop PC that was sat on the living room floor, under my desk.

It was an old Advent running Windows 98, that I'd had since I was about eighteen years old. I got out my first student loan at university in order to buy it, and I haven't needed to use it for about six years now. I had the base unit under the desk 'cause I wanted to see about getting the files off the hard-drive, but I hadn't got around to it, and I actually had my feet up on it when the floodwater got into the flat. The monitor and peripherals were in the shed outside my flat, packed up safely in boxes, but were actually the first things out there that came into contact with the water, so the loss adjuster decided to replace them.

I got the phonecall about them last Saturday, and was informed there was a PC World voucher coming for approximately £730!

Cue one hell of a jawdrop, and a struggle to sound calm over the telephone! ;-)

I picked up the post at my house on Tuesday afternoon, and the voucher card had arrived, so I arranged with Dad to go to the store this evening to pick up a new laptop! I'd wanted to replace my old one anyway, and the XP desktop's still perfectly good for what Rowan and I need it for.

I'm very happy with the machine we came away with, and I still have a nice amount left on the card - that's going towards getting Rowan a Wii for his birthday (Oh okay, yes, I want one too! *grin*) I'm currently downloading the various software I use, like ZoneAlarm and AVG, and I should be fully up and running in a couple of hours!

I'm not quite back to how I usually am, since I'm using this from my parents house, but pretty close! It's like when I first got my old laptop all over again! *chuckles*

Right, let's get back to getting through the flists and stuff - Mam's watching Sunday's episode of Casualty on the iPlayer and I want to be as distracted as possible; the storyline's absolutely horrific - worse than I ever remember it being! *shudder*

I'm glad you're getting something out of all this mess, sweetie. :)

Yay. How cool that something good is coming out of all this. Go you!

Coo. Well, it doesn't make up for the loss and the mess and the inconvenience and the worry and the having to watch Casualty ... but still ... I suppose it's the universe's equivalent of the sweetie you get when you've been good at the doctor's.

They probably don't do that any more these days.

Wow. New shiny. :) Isn't it great when damage assessors assess the value at more, WAY more than you expect?

*big hugs*

*Snugs* Yeah, it's been great in that sense.

Plus when I can finally go spend the insurance money for the furniture, I get to go buy that IKEA bedroom furniture I've been coverting for over a year! ;-)

You have to have somebody video tape you when you hit Ikea. :) I wish to witness the shopping SQUEEEEEEEE!!!!! ;-)

Hee - I'm not sure about that, I must have looked strange enough last Saturday taking pictures for Rowan with his class mascot. *grins* But I'll certainly be taking pictures when everything's done.

Of course, the way things are looking, I may even be documenting a complete change of house - I am so peed off with the council right now.
