An alternative ending for the due South finale!

I spotted this via ds_noticeboard and...woah.

I both like this ending and hate it...

And before anyone starts sneering at me, no it's not down to my slash-goggles. *rolls eyes*

In some ways, the actual ending to the show is a Fraser/RayK shipper's (yes, I say shipper, deal) dream - our heroes are riding off into the sunset together! BUT, I thoroughly disliked the way the stories of everyone else were wrapped up; Vecchio and Stella? Fran's multiple 'miracle' babies? Yeah right! Turnbull going into politics. and then getting knocked down by his own tourbus? *snorts* It totally smacked of "OMG, we have to finish this right now and I have no idea how!" *sighs*

So this alternative ending, while kinda sad (Poor lonely RayK! *smishes him all up* At least the guys look to be trying to reconnect with him, though), it mirrors the Pilot so beautifully! And as some of the post's commenters said, sure Fraser's all the way up in the frozen north, but there's always the option of visits on all sides. Fanfic's gone down this path a million times.

Can we honestly say he's gotten so used to Chicago life that he'd never even consider moving back? Both the show and fanfic have painted him still pining after the territories, since that is what he knows best.

I'm still a little undecided, but I think this alternative ending may have been somewhat more satisfying than what we actually got.

See, I think they should have blended the two - Fraser's back up there, but Rayk's with him.

Yeah, perhaps the conversation at the two-seven could have included comments about Ray's plans to head North *nods*

Hee - I started off shipping Fraser/RayV, but once I got to know RayK better I found I lean more that way. Of course, Fraser/RayV/RayK's kinda fun too. :-D

Oh! No, sweetie - I obviously wasn't clear enough! The post is photos of an early draft of the script, with a totally different ending to the one they ultimately settled on.

I don't like the "original" ending. RayK seems sad and alone. Fraser hasn't changed any, he's still Fraser alone. Thatcher, who hates the wilderness is with him?! And Ray/Ray shippers (see I use it too) are happy, but since I kinda hate, well really really hate, Ray/Ray (which I know makes me unpopular, but that's the way I roll) I don't like the idea that it was almost almost cannon!

I'll take the Fraser/RayK riding off on their dogsled together ending any day. ;-)

See, this is why I'm also in two minds about it - I don't like the idea of RayK being so sad, even if the guys from the 27th are reaching out to him. Like I said to Liza, I think I'd prefer that conversation tweaked to imply he's gonna be heading up North at some point soon ;-)

I think the thing with Fraser is that that is, essentially, who he is. Chicago will have done him the world of good, showing him how to work with others and not be such an isolationist, but there's going to be times when he will completely relish that solitude - even if only for a brief time (which I hope is the case in this example, or I will sic the Rays on him! *grins*)

Thatcher, if I recall correctly, was briefly filling in for someone, so that's not so bad. And as for Ray/Ray...well, that's not really how I roll either, though I don't mind the odd OT3 fic once in a while ;-) Variety being the spice of life and all that rubbish!

I think ultimately we need an amalgamation of the two endings, then everyone'd be happy :-)
