I'm watching The Ark In Space, from Tom Baker's tenure, and I can't help giggling at the special make-up they have for the Alien-du-jour...

Bubblewrap painted green!

Ah, show.... :-)

We were at a friend's house for a barbecue and ended up sitting through almost two whole Tom Baker stories. Now I remember why I stopped watching it all those years ago ...

Hee - the funny thing is that, at the time, we mostly thought this was amazing cutting edge stuff! (Though I doubt many viewers managed to suspend their disbelief enough to accept the the bubblewrap *wink*)

I wonder what we'll think of the last couple of years' Doctor Who, in about thirty years time....

I doubt I'll still be around then, so I won't be thinking about it at all! Although, truthfully, I don't really think about it now.

Oh I dunno about that - you'll just have to wait and see *shrug*

And if shows like Quantum Leap are already looking dated, who knows what we'll think of any other shows in thirty years. I was watching the end of a Cadfael episode earlier, which is only about fifteen years old, and it looked much older. Technology is scary, especially in the entertainment media.

Tom Baker was my Doctor. I watched those episodes when they were new, and stopped after he left. I loved them soooooo much. I have not seen them since, and think that if I did, I would be very sad at how old they look.

I would like to show them to my kids, but part of me really doesn't. Oh, well. I have my favorite (Invasion of Time) on my Netflix list, so maybe some day I will re-watch. Until then, I can live on in blissful ignorance. *g*

I think my first proper Doctor was Peter, though I did watch some very late Tom episodes - I think I just hadn't properly got into the series at the regeneration stage (I'm odd like that) My fav for a long time was Sylvester, and I'm still really fond of him, but I just adore David.

Heh - I know what you mean...the shows are rapidly losing that vital something that endears them to a brand new audience. I couldn't take Ark In Space or Revenge Of The Cybermen seriously at all, but I can bet you I would have been cowering into my Dad's side at the original broadcast.

Did confirm what an awesome actress Elizabeth Sladen is, though. I can't wait for season two of The Sarah Jane Adventures in a month or so. :-)
