So Rowan's developed some nasty red rashes on his arms and legs recently. I thought it was the recent change in laundry detergent - especially since I also had some rashes for a brief time - so I swapped back to a brand that's not bothered him in the past. But no. In fact, I'd go so far as to say they've gotten worse. And they're quick to bleed slightly if he scratches at them.

So, since he's on school holidays at the moment, I've tried to get him an appointment at the doctors. My surgery, however, is a nightmare to get appointments at; the only way to get an appointment is to call them first thing in the morning and cross your fingers for an opening that day. So I called them twice between eight fifteen and eight thirty, finally getting through only to be told that they were already booked up for the day! *growls* This happens almost every damn time I try and get an appointment for either of us.

I really want to be able to go back to the GP I've been with for most of my life, but he's down in Roath. My parents are still on his books, despite being out of his catchment area, but he's not prepared to take us on 'cause of the likelihood of Rowan needing a callout late one night. Which is reasonable, if very annoying. At that surgery, all you need to do is turn up between two set periods - one first thing in the morning, and one late afternoon to early evening - and you're guaranteed to be seen. All you need do is be prepared to wait your turn.

It's one more reason why I want to get back to Rowan's school district. That and I don't want to be here when it's time for Rowan to go up to high school; there is no way he's going to school with the kids around here, whose parents don't often give a shit about their futures and ASBOs are considered badges of honour. *scowls*

They're not the really horrible rashes, thank god. Just those kind you get in the heat - which is not a factor right now. He seems to be inheriting my dry skin though, so when he scratches at them he makes them bleed a little.

When I was little, doctors used to come to you. Especially if you were a kid. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GOOD OLD DAYS?!

Of course, it was also illegal to be gay, so it wasn't all beer and skittles, but still.

Heh, yeah, I remember when GPs used to come visit. The one time I tried to call him out to see Rowan, back when he was almost two, I had to call NHS Direct and speak to a nurse, who determined that a visit wasn't necessary :-p I was living in a flat above a shop at the time, and wasn't used to coping with a vomiting toddler without my mother's help, so I ended up calling her out for moral support as well...

The good old days...*sniggers* Almost everything seems better a decade or more down the line.
