So the autumn school term is officially underway, and so far so good *crosses fingers* It's good to get back to my normal routine, though I'm not being as good as I should be about walking back and forth between school and work.
Rowan started back at his regular Tuesday-night football thingy at a community centre near(-ish) to his school. Wasn't sure if he was going to go back, as he was getting funny about it at the end of the summer term - and, frankly, he's not really participating anyway. He's got a silly paranoia about being hit by the ball, so he tends to stay off to the side, jumping and jigging around. Of course, he also gets frustrated when no-one will pass him the ball, but let's face it - he's stood off to the side of his own goal and, the way these kids play, there's no way his team-mates would see any strategic need to pass to him.
He's decided not to go back to gymnastics on Wednesdays, which is something of a shame, but he is still happy to go back to Badgers on Thursdays. That's actually the worst of all his after-school things, as we have to come home beforehand for tea and then walk over to the school where it's held - which is two-thirds of the way from here to the university where he attends summer camp. It's knackering, but hey. I need to keep the weight off so I can still fit in my bridesmaid dress in a few weeks time!
We've something of a busy week ahead; my singing group has an 'open-day' on Thursday for anyone else in the company who might want to take part - I think they're feeling we're too small to pull off the Albert Hall gig as we are. Kinda stings though; one of the girls I work with was interested in taking part earlier in the year, but didn't want to do the little gigs like the 'Race For Life', just the Albert Hall. But, like I said to Jo who also works with her, you don't get to do the Stadium gigs without doing the Workingmens Clubs first! But hey ho!
Anyway, Friday kicks off 'Children's Birthday Party Season' (which is manic between now and early Spring), back at the community hall, only this time it's not Edith's party but Laurence's - he whose mother got 'pickpocketed' during the third episode of 'Torchwood: Children Of Earth'. *grins* I originally thought it was Saturday, but she corrected me during football this evening. Good thing too, as my day would have been absolutely packed on Saturday otherwise; Mel and Will are coming over at some point during the day, so Will can fix my tumble dryer (Yay!) and Mel can do another dress-fitting (which means I get sexually harassed by my future 'brother in law' while he tries to 'help'....hmmm *wink*) I thought it was Laurence's party at tea time, and then we're going to my friend Gawain's house as his wife is throwing him a surprise birthday party. Can't mention it on either Facebook or Twitter, as I have him friended on both of those! *chuckles* Thankfully kids are allowed at the party, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to attend. Rowan'll be fine, since one of Gawain's kids is in his year at school and they've known each other for quite a while now.
It's kinda funny; I met Gawain in high school, when a bunch of us hung out in the music room during breaktimes. He's a year younger than me, and always made me laugh with his antics. My friend Robert was in the same 'gang' of friends, though I don't think he and Gawain have kept in as close contact. I was pleasantly surprised to discover Gawain's the stepfather of one of Rowan's school-friends, but then - last year,or maybe the year before - I also found out that Gawain knows Mel! He apparently used to hang around the same rugby club as her brother as a kid. And to top all that off, I discovered over the summer that he also knows a guy I went to college with!
It's a small world...
