May. 18th, 2008 01:13 pmPicked up those shelves I wanted in IKEA yesterday, along with a replacement sofa cover (mine's got torn stitching, and some Rowan-related stains that just won't wash out *sigh*) and a five-photo picture frame. I printed out some of my digital photos on Friday, so I could either frame them or put them on the fridge in special magnetic photo-holders.
I think, actually, I should have done two batches; while the ones I bought the frame for needed to be 7x5, having pics that size on the fridge doesn't leave much room... Ah well. I can always get some more prints.
It's great having those extra shelves - the glass cabinet looks nearly normal again. The bottom still looks odd though, as I have a very large, cut-glass vase that I was given as a wedding present. It's currently holding the wooden roses Rowan gave me for Mother's Day last year. It looks nice, but the space on the bottom of the cabinet looks too large for my taste :-/ I may rethink having that vase on display...
I put my old collection of classic children's stories up on the top shelf, since we're not currently managing to read them at bed time. Neither of us seems to have the patience for such wordy old tomes at the moment, which is kind of a shame. But at least they're still out on display should we change our minds. It also frees up another shelf on the main bookcases, so I can spread Rowan's books out a little better. Won't be long before he'll need a whole unit to himself!
The second new shelf has my action figures on it - that was a nightmare! I don't know what Rowan and Rafael did to them back last year, but some of them are a little reluctant to stand properly now.
I'd love to get some more bookcases - I worked out I can fit three more full-size ones, and one half-size, provided I do something about my dining table. But, while the shelves I have are verging on overflowing, I can't honestly justify the extra units. At least, not until I've had a chance to go through Mam's garage and locate the books I'm certain are missing. I've not seen my Star Wars novels for several years, for example.
Would also be nice to find out where the extra shelves for my CD/DVD towers have gone. I'd be able to put my CDs back on display again then.
Right, back to reshuffling the shelves I go!
