A good start to 2007.....not!
Jan. 2nd, 2007 03:46 pmAs the schools are closed for the christmas holidays, I had to make arrangements for Rowan since I couldn't take two weeks off work. Rafael's mother Maria offered to look after him for me and, while I would rather he not spend the day in a smokey environment, I figured I'd be foolish to turn down free childcare.
She only had him for two days last week, as I was off work Monday and Tuesday, then Mam had Wednesday off for her birthday. So I only needed to drop him off on the Thursday and Friday. Saturday we took Rafael with us to an indoor fairground in town, and I dropped him off with a "See you Tuesday!"
Went to drop him off today, and there was no answer at the door. Even though we rung the bell four times! So I ended up taking Rowan with me to the office to ask for the day off.
I spoke to the supervisors on my department (both the managers are on holiday), who checked with the Operations Manager Andrew. Thankfully they were sympathetic to the problem and let me take today as a holiday. Andrew also told me to take each day this week as it comes, and let them know if Maria lets me down again. I'm grateful for their support, though irritated at losing vacation time. It's practically impossible for me to work late these days in order to make up for any shift I had to miss as unpaid leave, so it's got to go out of my holiday allowance.
So, with the day free and us already in town, we went to see a film - this time it was 'Flushed Away', an Aardman animation with Hugh Jackman as a domestic rat. It was very, very good! Jean Reno as Le Frog was awesome!
Speaking of films, last night I finally watched 'Superman Returns', and OMG how fantastic was that! I loved some of the nods to the old films, the old comics... *happy sigh* The whole thing with the plane was very similar to how Superman 'appeared' in the restart after the original 'Crisis On Infinite Earths', and that photograph taken of him holding the car? An exact replica of the cover of the first 'Action Comics' issue staring Superman! *grins* I had to laugh when they said he'd been saving people in Gotham City though - bet Batman was pissed!
