gothams3rdrobin: (Josh sleepy)
It's been a wierd day today. I had to take the day off work 'cause the council were sending 'round electricians to upgrade the flat. I now have a brand new fuse box in the cupboard by the front door, and with the exception of the kitchen every power point in the house has been converted from single-socket to double-socket. This will cut down on the number of extension plugs I am forced to use - damn things make me nervous.

The kitchen will apparently be likewise upgraded when the renovations take place. God knows when that will be, but it's another set of vacation time I'll have to sacrifice.

They actually added some extra sockets too - there's now four power points behind my tv instead of just one; this is where my desk is located as well as the TV stand, so this means everything can be plugged in back there. Quite a relief as up till now I've had to run the TV, DVD, VCR and Cable box off an extra-long extension lead (one of those big ones where the cable winds into the base for storage) from the opposite side of the room. This has an additional bonus of freeing up that other power point, which is behind the sofa, allowing me to plug the laptop in there rather than the power point under the dining table at the far end of the room.

If you think all that's been a hassle? Don't get me started on the kitchen...

While the work was going on, all of the plug sockets in the house were understandably deactivated. This left me unable to surf the net, so I tried reading a book for a while but my concentration wasn't what it should be. Not least of all because having workmen in the house makes me nervous. After a couple of hours, I gave up on the book and turned my laptop on. I managed to finish typing up one of my stories and play a few rounds of solitare before the battery gave out, and it was only another half an hour before the electricians got done with their work. So I guess that worked out okay.

The inactivity of the day has left me very, very sleepy though, so I don't think I'm going to be online much tonight... But in conclusion, I'd just like to say 'Avast, Shipmates!' *grins* I'm well amused at all the International Talk Like A Pirate Day stuff - though I have an entirely different reason to be amused by the fact they've amended the 'Update Journal' button to read 'Update Captain's Log'...
