So I'm back!

Went in to the hospital around noon, and got shown to my bed on the Day Surgery Unit. Spent the next two or three hours listening to Sports Night on my mp3 player - having to stop periodically when a member of staff came by to yet again ask me the same questions about my allergies etc.

Then finally they wheeled me into the anesthetic room, stuck one of those IV thingies in my left hand and an oxygen mask over my face. Next thing I know I'm waking up in recovery, feeling somewhat sore. At least I didn't wake up crying this time...

I asked for a little more pain-relief 'cause, well, it hurt. So they gave me another shot of morphine, and ended up keeping me in recovery for a little while longer than originally thought till they were happy with the frequency in which I was breathing. I wasn't short of breath or anything like that, I was just so spacey/sleepy that my respitory rate was pretty low. So I then had to force myself to stay awake and concentrate on breathing more often. The recovery room was really noisy, as a gaggle of nurses were gossiping just a meter or so away from me, but that helped keep me awake.

After a little while they put me back on the ward and gave me a cup of water to drink - the first thing I'd had to eat or drink since about ten pm yesterday so I was more than ready for it, let me tell you! After that they brought me a cup of tea and a sandwich, which helped a great deal.

Once I'd eaten I asked if I could sleep now, and thankfully they said yes. So I dozed until about half an hour before Mam was due to come pick me up - she'd phoned at some point and been advised when to come get me. So, I had to then get myself dressed while still half-concious. I sat in the chair by my bed, drifting in and out, while I waited for one of the nurses to discharge me and walk me down to the waiting area.

I'd been there pretty much a minute when Mam arrived. Unfortunately, she also brought Dad and Rowan with her....so I had to put up with him chattering away at me while I dozed in the back of the car. I was so out of it I asked Dad to call Mel for me, to ask her to come up and keep an eye on me tonight. When we got home Dad stayed with me for a little while and Mam took Rowan back to theirs to feed him and put him to bed.

I'm feeling heaps better now - Mel's here, plying me with tea and we're winding up her boyfriend over the telephone *grins* I have some painkillers from the hospital if I start hurting again, but so far I'm coping without them. Very much of the yay.

Thanks for the well-wishes, guys! Hopefully I'll talk to you all again tomorrow.
