What a weekend
Jun. 4th, 2006 09:20 pmYesterday was pretty cool. I'd arranged to meet up with Mel and her boyfriend to take Rowan round the park for a bit, so I spent the morning doing as much housework as I could before they arrived. It was a bit of a mad rush and I'd just finished cleaning myself up when they rang the intercom.
We packed Rowan's bike in the boot of Will's car, then nipped 'round my mother's house as she wanted me to run to the chemist for her prescription. She's let herself run out of her painkillers and she's been sick since friday so she couldn't go get them herself. While at her place, we picked up the carseat and Rowan's ball. This pleased Will as he'd not known we were all going out till he arrived at Mel's the night before, and had been a little disappointed 'cause he would have brought his football.
Following the run to the chemist, Will wanted to go to the sports store to get himself some new football boots. He didn't succeed in his quest for the 'perfect boot', but instead bought Rowan two proper footballs! He originally only got the one, but the girl at the till reminded him there was an offer for a second ball for just a quid extra so he dashed off to get the other one! *grins* We then had some dinner in McDonalds before driving over to Roath Park Lake for a kickabout.
Rowan rode his bike from the car to the play area - which was quite a distance - and I was thrilled with how well he was riding it by the end of the day. Especially considering one of the pedals kept falling off every couple of meters *sigh* We spent about twenty minutes in the playground so he could have a go on the slide, then we found a empty spot for the four of us to play with the football.
I was amazed how much I enjoyed myself, as I am really not very active and pretty unfit. But I was running around after the ball just as much everyone else, kicking it a fair distance...I don't have any real ball control, but I was pleased with how well I remembered what Mr Lepore tried to drill into us in primary school.
Rowan was really good all day, and went to sleep with minimal fuss after watching Doctor Who with me (Plus he asked to be allowed to see The National Lottery 'cause he likes watching the ball-machines *chuckles*)
Today I saw him off to his grandparents for the day, then headed into town to see if I could catch Mel. She was in Bute Park today doing the Race For Life, raising money for Breast Cancer Research. The race had already started before my father-in-law arrived, so there was no chance of me catching the start of the race, but I hoped I could meet her afterwards to hear how it went. No such luck, unfortunately, especially since she left her mobile phone at home and there was no way I could find her in those crowds. I did see several people from work, though.
She sent me a text message later on to say she did the 5k run in about 54 minutes, which is very cool. I called her a little while ago to get more details, but her Mam told me she'd collapsed in bed with a migraine. Can't say as I blame her, poor love....I'm very proud of her.
Rowan spoiled his good behaviour for the weekend, when I caught him chewing through the wire for his headphones. New headphones that I only bought him on friday 'cause he'd done major damage to the originals. I'd told him straight he had to take care of these ones, 'cause I wouldn't be buying him new ones a second time, so they ended up in my bedroom cupboard and he got sent to bed without his story. He cried and pleaded, and tried to apologise, but I'm not budging on this. *sigh* Destructive little monkey....
