Sometimes I love my mp3 player
May. 15th, 2006 07:37 pmTo me, music is a form of therapy. There's always a song in my head, as singing to myself in my mind was one of the things that kept me sane during boring shifts in the kitchen of my local Burger King. I remember cracking up when singing Queen's 'Teo Torriate' while chopping up the lettuce, due to the line 'Let us cling together' sounding so much like 'lettuce clings together'.*giggles* And let's not discuss the mayonnaise....
One of my favourite ways to lift my spirits is to listen to an upbeat song - particularly Brian May's 'On My Way Up'. And a sad song like 'I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues' will make me smile, as I remember Graham, John, Bruce and I singing it while we oversaw a seating one night at the UCI cinema down the bay. The customers thought we were crazy, but in a pleasant 'these people are enjoying their jobs' kind of way.
Until today, I hadn't experienced any sign that my mp3 player has a sense of humour, as you often hear from people who set their iPods on shuffle. I reset my playlist last night, ready for this morning, and was enjoying listening to some songs from Sue Thomas FB-Eye and Due South on the way to work, as it cheered up a gloomy, rainy morning. Just as I was walking down the street to the office, 'Good Day Sunshine' began to play - which made me grin. Then, as I was getting of the lift on my floor, 'Boogie Shoes' started.
If I hadn't been in full view of everyone in the office, I think I would have started dancing! What a great way to start the morning.
The rest of the day went pretty peacefully, despite learning that I completely bombed my productivity on friday. But then, after the disruption I had to put up with, I'm not surprised. I had my monthly One-to-One with my new manager as well, which took all of five minutes I'm pleased to say.
The rain had let up enough for me to take Rowan to the park after work. But not before I had to help three of his playmates with their pictures - they were drawing around animal shapes and all wanted me to do it for them! I joked with Rowan's teacher that I should claim to have been working for them. *grins*
Now, I have to decide whether I'm going to watch the baseball game I taped last night, or that Peter Krause movie that's on my cable supplier's pay-per-view this month...
