Doctor Who was funny tonight - though I did have to cuddle Rowan close during several scenes. One of the funniest scenes, which unfortunately not everyone will get, is when the Doctor tells the Scottish soldiers he comes from Balamory! *giggles* That's the name of a pre-school television programme, based on people living on a little scottish island called 'Balamory'. It's one of Rowan's favourite shows, and my Dad likes it too 'cause he's nuts about all things scottish.
As a bit of useless information, the island's actually called Tobermory.
I also chuckled at the arts and crafts show 'Doodle Do' when, while telling a story about a boat moored to a tropical island, they named the place 'Barry Island'. That's where I lived when I was Rowan's age! *grins* It's probably a nod to the fact the presenter is welsh.
Had my new carpet and bathroom vinyl delivered this afternoon - they fit the vinyl for me, which was great as the room is basically a stall for the toilet and Mam's attempt to instal the original vinyl last year was a disaster. Though, in fairness, she's not a trained carpet fitter so she did the best she could.
Mam was supposed to come fit the bedroom carpet for me tonight, when she got back from seeing my sister's new place in Dawlish. But she didn't get home till eight, so I told her to just get some rest before work tomorrow. So it's just sitting on my bedroom floor right now, as there's no way I could do it.
I've also spent most of the day struggling with my washing machine. It's been rattling for the last week - scarily loud, too. At first I thought it was a toy of Rowan's in amoungst the clothes, but that was proved wrong. I pulled the machine out into the middle of the kitchen to try and find the access vent, see if I could get to whatever's rattling - but I couldn't see it anywhere. There was also some dirty water pooled under the machine, so I put it back on again, leaving it where it was to see what was going on. Out came a load of very dirty brown liquid, so I stopped the machine to empty it. Normally this isn't much of a problem - when you've got a kid who likes to keep toys in his trouser pocket, it becomes a common occurance. But, typical of my luck, this time I ended up with water all over my kitchen floor. It then ended up on my bathroom floor (not the room where the new vinyl was laid, thankfully) as I could only carry the washing in my linen basket to be handwashed.
Hell, at least my floors got washed today....
I think the drum has come loose in the washing machine, and the connections are rattling around inside. When it's on the spin cycle, the whole machine shakes, in a way it never used to before. Which leads me to suspect I'm going to have to buy a new one....even though I seriously can't afford to do that.
Rowan and I had our fair share of fights today, from the usual not-picking-up-his-toys, to his new trick of throwing the stones out in the garden at the house....He claims that's something he does with his dad, so it looks like the playing-the-parents-off-each-other games have now commenced. I have no idea what's happening tomorrow with him as, at ten fifteen in the evening, I still haven't heard from my mother-in-law....*sigh*
I was also planning to spend the day putting my new wardrobe together, but with the carpet not laid that plan's out the window.
