gothams3rdrobin: (dan and casey - working)
The fire alarm is going off....

But, it's not continuous, so we're not supposed to evacuate on this floor just yet. Geez is the noise painful!

There are twenty-three floors in this tower block, so it takes time to get fire drills processed so they have a kind of two-tier system - if it's intermittent like this we have to wait.

*sigh* I am gonna have such a headache soon...no way can anyone concentrate properly. I'm just glad I'm not sat right underneath the alarm anymore. Anyone who is has an empty paper-bin in their hand covering it 'cause it's just so loud!

*exhales*

After about 15 minutes of sitting through that alarm, my Operations Manager came by to tell everyone that we may as well get a move on and leave the floor. So, everyone grabbed their coats and....

Silence.

*sighs*

It would actually have been almost nice to have evacuated - we'd have had to walk down nine flights, but it takes so long to get everyone back to their floors that it would have been some significant down-time....

Ah well...gonna go get a glass of water and hope I can clear my head. Another reason it would have been good - I'd have gotten a little fresh air.

I feel like it's been friday for the last couple of days and saturday just won't come, dammit.

I'm tired, dreading opening my inboxes pretty much every day, and it's still too dark even with the clocks going forward last sunday.

Actually I can probably attribute a little of my tiredness to the loss of an hour, but not much. And at least I managed to get through all my chores in the kitchen this evening without needing to turn the light on, even though I didn't get done till seven.

Monday we had a system crash an hour before my shift ended, so we spent the time doing team quizes and stuff. I doubt it helped my daily productivity much - I have no idea as I haven't bothered to hand in my worksheets for almost a week. I just plonk them down on my work tray and leave the office. My manager's not asked me for them either.

Rowan got another birthday party invite, for a week on saturday. That makes a total of eight birthdays for me to deal with this April *sigh*

Yesterday afternoon Mam called me to let me know she'd picked some stuff up for me at the supermarket, so we called there on the way home. Ended up stopping for tea - chicken curry, rice and chips from the chippie, which was a nice change. There was the predictable row when I commented about getting my husband a birthday present from his son at the end of April - Mam insisted that I shouldn't have to do that, especially as he'll likely not get me anything from Rowan for my own birthday. My mother's day gift last sunday was bought by my own mother, after all.

My response was "And your point is...?" This is a gift from Rowan, not me, and I am so not going down that path. Yeah, I'm pissed at him for not living up to his responsibilities, even back when we were still together, but what does that have to do with his son giving him a birthday present? And the only reason I've not sicced the Child Support Agency on his ass is 'cause the system's so incredibly fucked up right now. I'm hoping they'll get their act together soon. Mam doesn't believe me when I say I won't let him get away scott-free forever, but it's true. I fully intend to make sure he lives up to his financial burdens at the very least.

This afternoon I got another call on my mobile - this time from the girl dealing with my house insurance claim. They've finally cottoned on to the fact they're more likely to catch me after 3pm... She was basically letting me know the claim's settled now and there's a cheque in the post to replace my ottoman and wardrobe. I'm disappointed that's all they were prepared to replace, but I guess they know what they're doing. I'm actually surprised because the assessor said they'd get the damage to the base of my wardrobe repaired (I didn't mention that those marks actually came from when it got dragged through mud on moving day...*wink*). Then again, it was put together by my husband, so it's been practically falling apart since day one. I'm glad.

As I also have a cheque for the carpet, I should be able to get back in my own bedroom within a week or two. I have the week after next off work as well, so it's great timing.
