I should be working, but I just had my personal space invaded for the last
ten minutes, so I need to regroup first.
See, I sit right in front of our Managing Director. Which can be a pain as
his phone's always ringing, he's often got people coming to meet with him...
plus his desk tends to be the grouping point for any events on the floor.
Like today for instance. We've had a competition relating to Chinese New
Year, where the teams had to design and build the head of a dragon. The
prize for the best was a team meal to the new all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet
restaurant. Which is actually situated in the building I used to attend
sci-fi club meetings in, back when it was the Guildhall Tavern pub. Met most
of my friends in there.
So they had the judging right in the space between mine and Ceri's desk
which meant I couldn't concentrate. Most everyone else was either going or
coming back from lunch, but since I'm part-time I was back at work already.
Our Dragon was pretty good, all in all, and they even included a
sound-effect roar somehow. But, one of the other teams managed to make a
dragon mask that actually looked pretty much like the kind they use in
Chinese parades - I took one look at that mask and I knew it was going to be
the winner. I was right.
So my team are gutted, as they were looking forward to the Chinese meal -
so was I, 'cause I love Chinese food. But I do think the better dragon won.
