It's quarter to two in the morning...and I'm sat at the dining table surrounded by computer equipment. I'm typing and surfing on my laptop, while listening to music on my desktop.

I've been trying to get my two computers to talk to each other for about a week now, as I'm working on a project for work and the files I need to create are too large for my laptop. They're also too large to be burned to CDs to transfer from one computer to another, so I need to find an alternative method.

Given the limitations and delays of trying to send files that are a minimum of a gigabyte in size via Instant Messenger software, I've been trying to set up a cable connection with very little success. And the computers are taking it in turns to refuse to access the wireless network connection we have set up. Right now, it's the desktop's turn - it was working perfectly when I shut it down to go out at lunchtime, but when I put it back on this evening? Nada. So I can't even investigate other internet based options.

So I'm understandably pissed off about this. And I'm stunned I'm awake still, considering I went to a staff party last night, and got up about seven thirty this morning. It was a Bond-themed event, with entertainment by Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet and Martin Fry of ABC.

The party taught me a couple of things, though;
1: Never borrow someone else's shoes, particularly if they have any kind of heel on them - I can't stand heels, and so my leg muscles were tensing up to compensate for my heel suddenly being half an inch higher than my toes. And I was on my feet for the vast majority of the evening.
2: Never underestimate the kind of parties thrown for the entire company, compared with my own brand. Yes, there will be food laid on, and it won't be that bad - we had the option of 'American' (cheeseburgers), chinese, italian or indian, or all four if you were hungry enough. You just handed over the appropriate food voucher at the 'Embassy' of your choice.
3: Don't go alone - I was bored out of my skull till the entertainment started. The person I usually go out with had family stuff she had to attend to, and I figured Graham's probably too sick to come out for the night. Hardly any of my own colleagues were there - those that were had their own cliques - and you can't spend the entire night standing around near your managers, even if they are supposed to be friendly and approachable.

And I don't think I've ever spent all my drinks vouchers - not even when I had company! *grins* I'm such a cheap date.

Mam came and collected me afterwards, since we were all obliged to stay until at least eleven - making my chances of getting the last bus home dodgy at best. They were drawing names out for quite large monetary prizes throughout the evening, and you had to be there to collect it - if you weren't, it got drawn again. They must have drawn about eight times for the top prize of £5,000 - naturally I didn't win a penny.

When we got home, I cooled down in front of the TV for a while with Mam and Dad, trying to figure out the answer to a very difficult question on Quiz TV while attempting to avoid brain-meltdown when listening to the time-filler bollocks the hostess was spewing. She spent about ten minutes at one point, when no-one was calling in to guess the answer, going on about nits!

...

I am so glad I don't generally watch that channel

In good news - I made what I consider to be a spectacular find in a shop up the road from my Grandparets which sells old comics. I am now the proud owner of the Birds of Prey action figures set; Babs, Dinah and Helena! *grins hugely* I never thought I'd ever find them!

Oh, and one last thing - I would like to point out that I now have a total of just seven Nutter Butter cookies in my possession.

I know I bought them back in November, but that's not the point dammit! I'm running out!! *wails*
