It's way past time....

that I started thinking about continuing my degree with the Open University.

As I've mentioned before, I'm thinking about doing this course, which is an introduction to writing fiction. It's only a twelve week level one course, so I wouldn't be able to apply to have my fees paid for me on this one - which is why I haven't already signed up, frankly.

I'm also considering going for the level two course Creative Writing in September, which is a full course and I would be able to get some help towards fees (Thank goodness!), but I'm a little concerned that I'd be repeating myself. Though admittedly taking the short course would let me know if I'm up to the longer one - I could do with help with my writing, frankly, but I also have the odd confidence problem. Plus, poetry? Do not want, kthxbye! That's something that does not appeal to me in the slightest.

What do you guys reckon? I have till March to save up for the short course.

Also, also! *bounces happily* GUESS WHAT THEY'RE FINALLY OFFERING!!! I wants it, precious!!! *coverts* Hell yes I will be signing up for this one in November! :-D I don't think this one would scare me as much as the French one did, odd as it sounds - mostly because I am so desperate to learn!

Ah well, back to work now. Going out this evening with some of the other mums from Rowan's school - should be interesting! I'm touched they thought to include me, frankly, and I'm hoping it'll be a good night.

Look at it this way: if you do the short course then decide not to do the longer one at least you'll have done something. And if you do decide to continue on to the longer one, at least you'll have some idea of how you'd cope with juggling work, Rowan and study and life in general. Any new knowledge is good knowledge. Doesn't matter what you do with it, it's just nice having it.

That's certainly true. Last year's french course basically only had my attention every second monday (when I was supposed to attend online tutorials, but frequently chickened out) and the week prior to an assignment deadline. :-p I think that was mostly 'cause the course was freaking me out and I couldn't get on with the text books. I hope the Welsh ones won't be as bad.

And I really want to get back to writing again - I love it, but stuff has happened in the last two years to really dent what little confidence I had.

Either sounds good. I'd think about it myself, but I know for a fact that I can't do online or correspondence courses, I just don't have the self-discipline (I've wasted a lot of money that way), and I'm so tired all the time at the moment I don't know how I would manage in any case.

I do need to do something, though, before I lose my mind - since the job hasn't worked out, and fandom is fading away from me. Let us know what you decide, and how you get on!

You could be my study-buddy! *grins*

I have a hard time keeping focus and motivation with these things myself - especially when I'm not coping with the course structure. But I really need to do something, yeah.

I'd like to take that too, but I'm too far away *sadface*

*sympathies* The Welsh one only extends as far as Continental Europe, alas. And the fee for the short writing course - not that you need it - is vastly inflated for 'the rest of the world' :-p

Nothing much in the way of community college in your area?

Oh, there is, but the likelihood of them offering Welsh is more remote than this country pulling completely out of Iraq. :p

That's true. :-(

Maybe you could help me practice? *shrugs*

I would look at doing the short course first, last thing you want is to take on the longer one and find out you don't like it or cant juggle things.

*nods* That's probably what will happen, ultimately.

I have to say I just love the idea of you going to school. I is am proud of you.

Awww, thanks Mike! *grins* I'd love to be doing this full time, but I'm not too good at working out the financial logistics of that.

Hey what matters is that you're putting in effort. More than many other people do.
