I just had to sit through a motivational video, all about Pikes Place Fish in Seattle! :-)

The video was your typical offering, and the corporate speak was a little hard to swallow (How exactly do you commit to a 'vision'? How do you 'be' it? I guess I'll never figure that out) but it was so awesome to see Pikes again!

Gotta admit, it's also kinda changed my mind a little about if I ever did move to Seattle; I kinda thought I could look into a job there, since I have experience as a fishmonger, but looking at the way they work? Not sure I could gel into that team the way they'd require. I certainly couldn't catch any fish that got hurled at me! *laughs* Ah well! :-)

Ah, gotta love the corporate videos, full of double talk and uplifting motivational slogans. Did they give you morning tea as well?

Alas, no. But I did have the option to go get a drink from the vending machine prior to the presentation :-p

I think that was the same motivational video that I saw! I saw it about three years ago at a seminar on "customer service" that everyone at my ex-job had to go to. During the discussion afterwards, the woman leading the meeting asked one of my co-workers if she had "fun" at her job, to which the co-worker quickly, and uncomfortably, replied "No" - the reason for the discomfort being that our supervisor was sitting at a table not too far away from us. And then it was just a few months after that when we got our notice that our department was being closed down, so, yeah, that was time well spent. :-/

The fish catching did look fun, but I don't think I could do it either.

This is apparently a sequel - the trainer was amazed how many of us had not seen the first film.

Heh - yeah, we're supposed to have fun at our job too. We even have a 'Ministry of Fun' to organise events and stuff. And while they do come up with some fun stuff, I personally have to try so hard to stay focused on my boring job, I don't have the time to stop and take part. Even though I'm allowed 'downtime' to do this stuff, the change in routine throws me off my stride.

Hee - yeah, that is the hard part. I can fillet, I can descale...but no. I can't catch anything.

They're certainly not the only fish place at the market.. *grins*

True, but they look the most fun to work for ;-)

I don't think I could really go back to the fish markets anyway - all the time I've spent working in cold, damp conditions (read: every job prior to my current one) has left me with achy hands. Sometimes just washing my dishes hurt :-/

Eeeeek.

That's no good at all.

Nope, but I deal. I just spent too many years with my hands in fridges or handling cold meat and fish at the supermarket. Before that I occasionally worked on the ice cream stand at the supermarket, and before that I was almost constantly holding a wet cleaning cloth while working at Burger King.

It's an odd kind of work-related injury, huh? Shame I can't claim compensation! *chuckles*

Oh god, they made you watch that, too? I have to admit - it did make me seek out and wander around the fishmarket when mike and I were in Seattle.

*grins* I love the place so much. That and my experience in the fish trade had me grinning like a loon in places! ;-)

It could be 'cause our CEO's a mad Bostonian - or whatever they call themselves out there. He comes up with these crazy ideas sometimes.
