gothams3rdrobin: (eddy in bed)

Rowan's been very trying this week. During an argument on Sunday night, he dared me to carry out my threat of grounding him for the week - so I did. As a result, he's watched no tv and has not been permitted outside, or to the park (which, actually, is not hard as the playground's having work done on it).

He whined at first that he was bored, but over the last couple of days has actually been more interested in his maths books. I'm accepting this as a good thing - someone needs to be able to add up, in this house!

Tonight, of course, he decided to get out his snap cards and a jigsaw - at the same time - and was happily tossing the pieces willy-nilly across the living room floor. He ignored my instructions to stop this and continued to throw them around until one of them hit the glass door of my china cabinet. That's when I put my foot down and insisted he had to pick them up right then or they would end up in a black bag ready for the bin.

An hour later, he still hadn't picked them up so I went and got the black bag. We had a row for a few minutes but the pieces eventually ended up in the bag and he ended up in bed crying his eyes out. And that, dear reader, brings us to the present.

Once he's finally asleep I will, of course, get them back out of the bag and put away properly. But hopefully now he realises I mean what I say.

And if he doesn't? Well, maybe next time I'll carry out the next part of the threat and make him walk the bag up to the communal bin...

Arglefraster.

*hugs*

Better you do this now than let him grow up to be a total smeghead.

*hugs back*

Thanks - it's not easy for me, as I hate yelling at him. But what can you do when he doesn't listen?

It's tempting to only let him watch tv on the weekends - he's been surprisingly focused on his maths books for the last couple of days. So much so he was fretting on the bus this morning that someone would break in and steal them while we were out! *chuckles*

You are a better parent then I. I have always been too much of a wuss, and it shows in my eldest's behavior.

It's hard, but you stick to it. It is a good mom that carries out her threats. You will be so glad you did when he is a teenager.

I felt like such a bitch, though, holding that black bag in front of him while he sobbed... *sigh*

It was only the conviction that I would put them all away again when he's asleep that got me through. But he'll catch me out before long, and then I'll actually have to throw them away.
