*waves sleepily*
I have a ton of housework to do, and I need to make sure I stay awake as I am sleepy as hell.
I went out last night to see Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix with Graham and some of his work colleagues, and went to Bar Icon for a drink afterwards so I didn't get home till about eleven thirty. Which isn't exactly late, but Rowan was over his nan's and I have difficulty going to bed at a reasonable hour when he's not home. I really can't explain it. Plus I had to make sure I was over there to collect him at seven thirty, so Mam could get to work by eight (Her job officially starts at nine, but she has this tendency to want to make herself indispensable, so she goes in early). Ended up down near Rowan's school with over forty-five minutes to kill, so we went to the cafe for breakfast.
I'm not going to give any spoilers about the movie - not least of all because I'm rubbish at that stuff, as my Who/Torchwood posts prove - but I will say that it was awesome! Loved every minute of it.
Rowan got his annual report on Wednesday, and it was good :-) They're not allowed to say anything bad about the students, which makes for interestingly funny reports full of things like "(Child's name) is able to do simple mathematics". That, by the way, is more indicative of my school reports than Rowan's. *chuckles* The personal comments from the teacher and headmaster were very nice, so I bent the rules of Rowan's grounding (he's been getting grounded a lot the last couple of weeks, mostly for not getting dressed in the morning) and we had pizza while watching the original Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory on dvd.
We had a busy weekend last weekend - the first really nice days we've had in weeks, as it's been raining like crazy around here. It feels more like february than july, it really does. Mam and Dad were back from their holiday, though Dad was the walking wounded as he slipped and hurt himself on their first day, resulting in two hours in Casualty. We all went down to Cosmeston Lake, in the Vale of Glamorgan, to feed the swans and let Rowan run around in the sunshine. The seagulls were out in droves down there, and were doing their damnedest to get the bread we were throwing, filthy birds. *scowls* The swans, however, were frequently letting the equally hungry ducks get the bread if they were closest, which we thought was cute. Plus the couple of geese hanging around were being polite and waiting to be thrown something, which made a nice change.
There was still loads of day left, so after that we went down Cardiff Bay for a wander and some Welsh cakes. There's a shop opened up down there that sells them hot off the griddle, and I'm so chuffed that I go there every opportunity I get 'cause I'd hate to see them close for lack of trade. And lets face it, the likelihood of my Dad (who, for an Englishman, makes the best Welsh cakes I've ever tasted) getting his bakestone out again are practically nil. So I have to get them where I can.
Mam wanted to take Rowan on the water bus, and there was initially some unpleasantness when Dad begged off 'cause of his injuries, but I got Mam to take him on her own while I kept Dad company. Mam's been arthritic all my life, and Dad's only just starting to really notice it himself, so she has very little sympathy for him. But if you consider that he was having difficulty even sitting down in a chair that weekend, you can understand his reluctance to go sit on a boat! So we watched them go, then went and had coffee in the Millennium Centre while we waited, giving us an opportunity to chat. I like my conversations with my Dad, since we can natter on about almost any topic that comes up. I frequently lose half my sunday by talking to my Dad after sending Rowan off with Barrie or his Dad.
On Sunday we all went for a meal to celebrate Mam and Dad's thirtieth anniversary. We had it at lunchtime again, as that worked well for both Rowan and Grampy last time, but alas Rowan was less co-operative this time. I think he was especially tired last weekend, 'cause he kept snuggling into his car seat and got crabby pretty quickly.
The rest of my week's gone pretty much as normal, though there was some amusement in work. One of the supervisors, Bernie, has come across a trick where, through a series of codes and fingersnaps, you communicate the name of a famous person to someone else. We spent ages providing names, and a couple of us were trying to decipher how it works. The girl who sits next to me kept muttering about what a load of rubbish it all was, but the rest of us were having a great time! Then yesterday we had a farewell presentation for our Managing Director, Ceri, as he's off to People Services next week - there were a lot of daft presents, mostly themed around his addiction to chocolate and the fact he's a very small man, smaller than me even! Andrew read out comments and web addresses from a book, a la 'This Is Your Life', again mostly themed around how short Ceri is; addresses like frankiedettorifans.co.uk, clothesforshortpeople.com, etc. *grins* It was a fun twenty minutes away from our regular work. We're not so sure what the new MD's gonna be like though, as those that have worked with him before don't make him sound so positive. We shall have to see....
Oh and the Torchwood crew were camped outside my office almost all week! *whines 'cause she couldn't investigate* Apparently they were filming inside the Tiger Tiger bar.
Anyway, I think I've waffled on enough for now and the housework's not doing itself dammit! *sigh*
*hugs
