gothams3rdrobin: (Captain Jack)

You would think that, by now, I'd have posted a massive squee-fest regarding last saturday's Doctor Who.

I have no explanation as to why I haven't. Rest assured it's not because the episode was bad, because it bloody well rocked!

It was so worth waiting for, and I've watched it twice since. I love the video library my cable provider has *grins*

In case anyone hasn't seen it yet (and why the hell not???), I'm gonna cut here for spoilers.

Now, my first thought on seeing the trailer for Utopia was that it was a clever edit made to look as though the Doctor was not happy at seeing Jack and wanted to avoid him. So you can imagine my shock to see that the scene played out exactly like that. So I was silently "WTF??" for the first half of the episode.

The explanation as to why - a form of prejudice on the Doctor's part - was a little odd, but I can go along with it. No-one said he was perfect, after all. And the whole talk through the radiation room's door - which was a fabulous scene - seems to have opened his eyes to how daft he was being.

It was great seeing Jack so enthusiastic again, once he settled back into the swing of life around the Doctor. He doesn't currently have the fate of the world - or at least Cardiff - on his shoulders, and he's with someone he adores, so yeah. I think he would totally relax and go with it, for the most part. I also liked how he befriended Martha like an equal, and the whole "What? Can't I even say hello to anyone???" *chuckles*

I'm expecting a rash of Ten/Jack fic now, which'll be fairly cool, and also a lot more Ten/Jack/Ianto - which is very, very cool. I think that's my OT3 in fact (apologies to the F/V/K fans on my flist - I still love the boys, honest!)

And the Master....oh my sainted aunt, the Master. Sir Derek Jacobi is, in my opinion, one of the greatest actors the UK has ever produced. Maybe even the world. I adore him in Cadfael (even if the show's welsh pronunciation is atrocious) and he scared the shit out of me in Kenneth Branagh's Dead Again. Seeing him in Utopia....well, I have no words.

We figured out John Sim was the new Master way back at Easter, when we caught them filming down the Bay, but it's always nice to have it confirmed. And I can see he's going to do a brilliant job. I squee anytime I hear/see the clip from tomorrow's episode where he's giving a news conference "In fact I'd go so far as to say that what this country really needs, right now, is a Doctor/" *happy squee* I was there when they filmed that scene!! It was in the Millenium Centre, fairly late into the evening the night I watched them film John Barrowman's departure for episode 13. John Sim must have had to say that line about ten times before we needed to leave, since the director never seemed happy. I couldn't see anything, 'cause the crew were in the way, but I think it was the extras who weren't quite hitting their marks.

I'm wondering which of the next two episodes includes the scene they filmed down the road from me. I hope it's tomorrow's, cause I'll be bouncing like a mad thing! *grins* If you see a scene with the Doctor sat down in a small courtyard, talking to 'Mr Saxon' on Martha's mobile? That's the scene I was there for.

I'm likely to not be able to watch tomorrow's ep till later though, as my niece Jodie is performing in a version of High School Musical. I don't know what part she has, but we're all looking forward to it.

My impatiently-awaited dvds finally arrived today *yay!* An animated movie called 'Everyone's Hero', based around the 1939 World Series, and Team Baby: MLB Baby - a pre-schooler's dvd all about baseball. *chuckles* I watched that as soon as I got home, wanting to judge how Rowan might respond to it; while it's somewhat young for him as it's aimed at infants and toddlers, I think he still enjoys pre-school tv enough that he's going to like it. Plus he'll get to sing along to 'Take Me Out To The Ballgame' during the seventh inning stretch!

He was supposed to have his school's sports day on Wednesday, but it absolutely tipped down on Tuesday so they postponed it. Ironically, the weather was pretty good on Wednesday, if somewhat windy, but seeing as they were holding the event over the Recreation Grounds, it was probably wise to wait. They've rescheduled for a week Wednesday now, so fingers crossed! He's been so excited, and getting rather upset every morning when I tell him that no, it's not sports day today.

Hmmm...what else can I say? Well, I finally finished reading Eldest, which is the sequel to Eragon. My Grampy let me borrow the books, though I don't think he wants them back (which makes them feel uncomfortably like a bequeathment, but moving on...) and I started reading the Doctor Who book I bought a couple of weeks ago called The Stealers of Dreams. I haven't read a Who book in a long, long time, so I wanted to start with an Eccleston, and since this included Captain Jack...*grins* I finished it on the bus this morning, after just a week - which was kinda depressing since it took me over a month to work through Eragon and Eldest. But still, very nice little tale.

Meh, I really ought to be getting on with some housework, and I've an assignment due next week. *grumps* I'm wishing I could drop the course, since I'm too shit-scared to attend the tutorials most times, but I'm only a couple of months from the end now. Just gotta keep telling myself that. And hope I can blag my way through the end of course test...
