Ah Wenglish, 'ow do aye luv ewe?

[livejournal.com profile] yellowseptember and I have been sorta discussing linguistics, and Wenglish came up. This is the 'corruption' of English by those living in Wales (well d'uh!)

My absolute favourite phrase, which I can never say with the accent it requires, is "Oo's coh-t is tha' jack-et 'angin' up on th'floor?" ("Who's coat is on the floor?")

I found a website which gives examples of common phrases - and damned if I don't use a lot of them! *laughs* More than I realised. Most especially ""Stop you-er Yappin mun, you-er doin my 'ed in!" ("Shut up, man - you're giving me a headache!")

*chuckles*

*laughs* Corruption of the tongue! ;-)

You can bet I'm bringing something that records audio whenever I manage to make the trip across the pond.

Heh - you reminded me of a song that's in the charts, one of those 'white-rapper' acts, where there's a disdainful line from a very well-spoken middle-aged gentleman;

"You boys! Blue-blooded murder of the English tongue!"

*giggles*

Hee - my camera records video, remember! ;-) You'd be able to do a video-diary any time you wanted.

:D I can close my eyes and totally see that. He's waving his finger around with a grouchy look on his face. *laughs*

Yah!!!
