Myfanwy and the Vee Eee Tee....

So tonight we braved the ice and took our house guest down to the PDSA hospital down the Bay for a check up. We had a bit of a mare with the buses, so we were late, but thankfully they weren't busy tonight.

Myfanwy is apparently in very decent health, with no indication of fleas or worms - though I already suspected that - but has been sent home with the appropriate treatments regardless. She weighs over four and half kilos, the little tub! *laughs*

She wasn't tagged by a previous owner, so we have to wait and see if the ad I put out gets any response.

I noticed her rear portions appear to have spread over the weekend, so I discussed with the vet the possibility that she's pregnant. She couldn't tell just from having a quick feel, though apparently her mammary glands are enlarged. This means that either she is, or she's had a litter in the past. The only way to be sure would be to get a private vet to give her a scan, so I basically have to play the waiting game - if she gets noticeably bigger, or produces kittens some time in January, then I will have my answer! *laughs*

Poor love was shivering in the carry box - less so on the way back, but it was still vibrating in my hand. She's since had a hearty meal - followed by a protest pwp over the edge of her tray :-/ So classy, Miss Myfanwy, really... She then had a cwtch with me for a little while, before snuggling down in her bed. I think she's already forgiven me... ;-)

Awwww, kitty. She's twice the weight of mine, omg.

Potential kittens! Is she definitely unspayed? Can vets tell from looking? B/c if you're playing the waiting game and she's unspayed she could totally get pregnant between now and January anyway. Oops?

I'm glad she's all settled in and healthy. :D

I know, she's quite heavy isn't she! And she's got a voracious appetite. I'm deliberately not overfeeding her though - just two sachets of wet food and as much dried food as she needs.

I don't know if she is - I asked, but the only way the vet could have told me would have been to shave her. I figured there was no point, and she needs all the fur she has right now! *laughs* There's very little chance of her getting pregnant between now and January, as I have no intention of letting her outside. Come February, when I know for certain either way, I'll book her in for the op.

Poor baby. I'm glad she's healthy, but I do hope she's not pregnant. If she is, that might account for why she's been recently well cared for but ended up on the street. That's how we got our old cat Lillian, her mother had been thrown out by her owner when she got pregnant and had (luckily) found refuge with a friend of ours.

There's certainly that - but if that's the case, then their loss is my gain. She's a wonderful cat, and I don't mind if she is pregnant. Obviously I couldn't keep the entire litter, but I would happily look after them while the CPL found decent homes for them.

Awwww. What an experience. I really hope for your sake she's not pregnant! That would be another headache, for sure.

It probably would be a headache, but I'd put up with it - it's what you do for a member of your family, right? Like I was just telling Hilary, I have no objections to, essentially, fostering most of the litter while the Cat Protection League find homes for them.

She may very well not be pregnant at all, I'm just preparing myself for the possibility and the vet couldn't completely discount it either.
