Keep On Running...

We sang at the Cardiff 'Race For Life' this morning; 'Keep On Running', 'Da Doo Ron Ron Ron' and 'Dancing In The Street'. I think it went well, though far from pitch-perfect - everyone was quite positive afterwards. We'd only had the one rehearsal, since we're back to fortnightly meetings again *sigh* They did manage to get the harmonies up on their website though, which helped.

Yet again we got made to do the 'Siren' warm-up in front of an audience though! *cringes* What you do is you hunker down, kinda shuffle your hands just above the ground while making as low a sound as you can. Then, on the signal, you raise yourself up to full height with your arms in the air, that low note getting higher as you go, before lowering back down again. The resulting sound is very siren-like, and is supposed to give an adrenalin boost. It's not too bad as part of the warm-up routine, but right there in public? Man....

I didn't think I'd actually manage to make it, since it wouldn't be possible to do this and drop Rowan off with his Dad. However, this is the third week running he's not gone up (I asked his dad if he could start helping me out financially, the last time I saw him. Think it's connected? */sarcasm*) and Rowan's always so eager to see us rehearse *grins* He's not actually had the chance to see a performance - none of my family have come watch, actually, but I'm not going there - and this time he was stood off-stage to my left, but still! He said we were very good :-)

It's been a very hectic week; he had a day off school on Friday, due to scheduled Teacher Training, and then Saturday was the John Barrowman concert *grins* That was sooooo much fun! We had front row seats, which was awesome, though we were off to the side so the view was slightly obscured by a speaker. Not enough to spoil the evening though! JB's a wicked, wicked man - though I already knew that! - and he kept teasing the hell out of his drummer, trying to get him to come out of a non-existent closet! *sniggers* At some points he'd be laughing so hard he'd have to stop for a moment to catch his composure. There was also a technical glitch where his earpeices stopped working, so he couldn't hear anything properly - he tried to fix it as he sang, not pausing once like the true professional he is, but it was no good so he had to get a roadie to fix it while he bantered with us. The guy had a right job getting it reattached to his belt though - prompting John to joke about straight guys not having much confidence messing around back there! ;-)

It was awesome seeing my friends Rob and Jane again too - can't believe they chose to spend their wedding anniversary at a gig with me! But then again, I think Jane's more obsessed with JB than me, and Rob appreciates John's talents - and loves his wife - enough to go along with it. Awww :-) Rob came back from the bar during the interval with news that Kai Owen - Rhys from Torchwood - was back there, and a number of people spotted David Tennant up on a very high balcony, prompting much chatter and squealing. John confirmed it during the second half, during a point where he had the house lights up, and simpered hello at Kai too :-) Guy was sat right in the centre of the front stalls, and probably got pestered by everyone! Good for him if so, he's awesome.

My sister and my neice were up for the weekend visiting Mam, so Rowan had a bit of a tight squeeze when he slept over there Saturday night. Since he didn't go see his Dad the next day, we tagged along down the Bay as it was a lovely day. Mam thought the Eisteddfod was opening that weekend, due to the signs on the buses about diversions, but I was proved right in my belief it was opening Monday. They'd been setting up all weekend, though, so the bus stops in the area had been temporarily changed already. We ended up going for a boat tour around the Barrage, going up the River Ely and over to Penarth Marina - it was very nice and the kids loved it.

Didn't bother doing anything on Monday and Tuesday, choosing just to relax around the house for a while. Rowan was happy as I lifted the month-long ban on his games consoles - he's barely gotten off the DS though *sigh* The weather was really bad on Wednesday, so we only popped to town for a few supplies we were running low on.

Thursday we went on the train to see my Nan, as I haven't seen her since my birthday and Rowan's not seen her in even longer. The weather wasn't supposed to be all that good, but in fact it was a beautiful day. If I'd had stuff with me, we'd definitely have popped over the island, but we'd already made plans to do that on Saturday since the forcast was excellent.

Friday we went down the Bay to the Eisteddfod. I hadn't realised they were charging admission, but I went along with it anyway. It was lovely to be surrounded by Welsh for the whole afternoon, even if my own understanding is limited. Rowan went on a few of the activities, including going on a canoe in the special pool they'd built outside the Pier Head building. We had lunch in my favourite Chinese buffet, and after we were done at the Eisteddfod we went to cool down in the cinema. We saw 'Night At The Museum 2', which was excellent. I still haven't seen Star Trek, since it's a 12a and I'm low on opportunities to go - but I will go see it, dammit!

Saturday was the pre-arranged day to the Beach, and even though we timed it to get there a little before the noon high-tide - when there's little beach so less people around, and Rowan gets to play at the water's edge without straying too far away - it seemed like almost everyone in Glamorganshire had the same idea! The trains there and back were crammed with people - mostly from the Valleys - and the beach was heaving! We stayed for a couple of hours making sandcastles, till the sun got too much and we went to get an ice cream on the promenade. Rowan got frustrated when I wouldn't get him go on any rides (there are a handful on the promenade, as a kind of f*ck you from the council to the guy who runs the Island's 'Pleasure' park *natch*), but I'd spent far too much this week.

Back to the usual routine tomorrow, and neither of us are looking forward to it. Won't be long till the Summer holidays too, when I have to find the fees for the camp he goes to. Not like there's anywhere cheaper I can send him, plus it's good value.

Sounds like a heck of a weekend. :)

Wait, what, you're not getting any kind of financial support from him at ALL?

WHAT THE FUCK, WOMAN. Your ex doesn't get to have kids and then have all the benefits without none of the obligations. That's just not how it works.
