When I replaced the furniture in my flat after the flood, I wrangled the settlement figure in order to be able to buy extra bookcases for my living room. I have a fairly respectable collection of books and dvds - some of books are still in boxes at my parents house, I'm sure - as well as a fair number of videos that I'm planning to replace as I go along.

To that end, I've just spent the better part of half an hour creating myself a Wish List on Amazon so I can keep track of them; most of the movies on the list are so old they're around the five to ten pound mark, and the box sets of TV shows aren't too badly priced either, all things considered.

Couldn't resist adding one or two things that came up on the recommendations pages as I went along *grin*

I need to get this completed before an awful lot longer though. I talked my mother into taking me to the Bristol IKEA last week for that CD/DVD storage unit that complements my bookcases, but it turned out to not be as good as I'd envisioned. See, I previously had two really thin shelving units that could hold a hundred or so CDs, or about eighty DVDs, or thereabouts, that I was keeping Rowan's DVDs and videos on. I decided I didn't want to buy these again as they irritated me somewhat, and I was thrilled when I saw this unit that's exactly like a normal bookcase, only it's just deep enough to hold CDs or DVDs, not books.

However, it only comes with four shelves, which can only be arranged to store a combination of DVDs and CDs on. Once I'd adjusted the shelves to CD height, there was a massive gap down the bottom and I couldn't fit all of my CDs and audio cassettes on the shelves provided! *scowls* The pine CD rack I'd been storing them on previously held more than this thing did!

In the end I had to rearrange one of my bookcases to hold the CDs and cassettes, which meant reshuffling all the other bookcases. Where I once had large gaps on some of the shelves, thanks to my rather anal-retentive filing system, I have now just about managed to squeeze everything on. Which means that if I ever locate the books I'm certain are still at my parents house, I'm going to have problems - not to mention any new books or DVDs I may buy in the future. That's a major reason why I want to replace all my VHS tapes, as they take up so much room in comparison with DVDs. I have almost an entire bookcase devoted to my Star Trek tapes, which could all fit on nicely to one shelf if I got my hands on the DVD boxsets! *chuckles*

The new storage unit hasn't been a complete waste of a purchase though; I've put the Nintendo and Playstation games on it instead, with some room for Rowan to add to the collection, as he inevitably will.

I always said I wanted to have a house with a library, filled with wall-to-wall bookcases - looks like it could be a necessity in a decade or so! *laughs* I don't tend to throw these things away.

Ugh, I was planning to settle down in bed early with my copy of Jeeves & Wooster on DVD tonight, but Rowan just will not go to sleep! *sighs* I don't know where he gets his energy from, as he was yawning his head off before we left my parents house this evening.
