My hands hurt...
Nov. 7th, 2008 08:33 pmI spent pretty much the entire day stripping the wallpaper off my living room walls. And now my hands and arms are very sore and achy.
I've been doing this in dribs and drabs for a few weeks now, and I'm still not finished, but today I worked a lot harder at it. I plan to do some more on Monday, and that should be it done and dusted.
The reason for my burst of productivity was that I actually had workmen in the flat, sorting out the bedrooms and hallway. I don't know why it is, but I do tend to get less done when it's just me on my lonesome.
The work's not done, but they're coming back on Monday to do some more. There was just two workmen assigned to the job today; a plasterer, and another guy to do the wallpaper stripping - I gather he's usually a plumber. By four thirty this evening, the wallpaper in my bedroom had been stripped out, as had some of Rowan's room (this, however, is not as impressive as it seems, since it was already half-stripped already, thanks to his habit of picking at it!). Plus half my hallway has been re-rendered, so I'm almost shot of that bloody awful artex! \O/
On Monday, they need to finish the wallpaper stripping and rendering, treat the bedroom walls for mould or whatever, then rewallpaper the bedrooms and emulsion the hallway. I'm doubtful they're gonna get it done by the end of the day, if today was any indication, but I remain hopeful.
Mam and I need to redecorate the living room as soon as possible - which will probably mean Rowan ending up spending time in the flat too, and I was hoping to avoid that. Ah well. We also need to sort out the carpets - there's a 60% sale on this weekend at the carpet store I have a credt note for, so fingers crossed we can get a good deal. May even be able to get the hallway carpeted too!
The major problem I have right now involves Rowan's bed - it's out of stock at Argos!! *headsdesk* I need to get that bedframe again, 'cause Rowan's still getting upset about the loss of 'the most comfy bed in the world!' He'd like a cabin bed, or a bunk bed, but I haven't been able to find an afordable one that doesn't also require me to buy the mattress. The mattress from Rowan's old bed - and the thing that makes it so comfy - is still perfectly okay. Plus, he does still really want his bed back, judging by how often he seems to be changing his mind. He just likes the idea of climbing a ladder to bed, is all.
Ugh...I'll be so glad when this is over.
*goes off to nurse her hand some more*
