*ramblings*
Oct. 5th, 2008 11:04 pmI'm currently watching a documentary on the history of the guitar, and there's quite a few guitar legends being interviewed - Pete Townsend, The Edge etc. - but, an hour in and so far no sign of Brian May :-/ Despite his being included on the trailer, where they're talking about all the legendary players...
Considering the guy built his own electric guitar with his Dad, I'll be pretty pissed if he's not included!
Rowan and I had the house to ourselves last week, between Monday and Friday, as my parents went off on holiday to Prestatyn. Apparently it pissed down the whole week! *sniggers* We had rain here too, but not to the level they did. It was kinda nice, just the two of us, but it's not the same when it's not your house; I spent a great deal of Friday afternoon cleaning the house to avoid disapproving looks from Mam when they got back. To be honest, though? I'm beginning to wonder where this paranoia I have comes from - I don't think Mam's cleaned the bathrooms (other than the toilets themselves - but that's a whole 'nother Dad-related rant) for months and months, 'cause the sinks were filthy! I know my place smells a little fausty, and I'm not too found of housework, but I do clean.
We didn't go anywhere on Saturday, other than to the supermarket for some supplies - and we were late doing that. Dad needed to transfer some money into Mam's account, but the broadband went out and didn't show any signs of returning. Dad did eventually call the helpline, but they couldn't send an engineer out till Monday. We ended up popping over to my place and re-establishing the broadband network there, so he could get online with his laptop - proving that it wasn't a network problem, since we use the same provider. Then Mam, Rowan and I went to get the shopping, leaving Dad home since he was 'too tired' (read: arse-lazy and miserable) to come out with us. Plus he hates going into ASDA when he's not at work (unless he's away on holiday, when it seems to almost be an obsession to visit any ASDA nearby...)
Mam was on holiday from her Sunday job today, to allow recovery time after the trip, and Rowan didn't go up to see his grandparents as they're away visiting their eldest, so everyone but Dad was home today. And even he was back by two, once he was done with his preaching engagement out in Llandaf. Mam decided this morning was the perfect time to get the old dishwasher shifted out to the back garden, ready for disposal, and the tumble dryer moved from it's old location in the porch. This, of course, meant we had to rejig the plumbing under the sink, removing the special pipe the dishwasher emptied into. That proved to be tricky and we ended up popping to B&Q for some new parts. But in the end we got it sorted - thanks to my insistence on getting in there for her to tighten it up, since I'm more flexible and she has no strength in her hands anymore. Yay me.
We actually managed to have Sunday dinner at the right time for a change, with Mam home - I still ended up cooking most of it though. Then afterwards we decided to do a little baking - this ended up being me and Rowan making little chocolate cakes, but hey. Mam made tomorrow night's Spag Bol while we got everything ready, then disappeared back to the living room. :-p
With the DIY, the cooking and the spot of ironing I had to do, I guess I can consider today quite productive.
Not much is happening with the flat yet; I have an inspector coming by next friday about the floors (I think this is about the replacement carpets) and I'm continuing to empty the condenser bottle connected to the dehumidifier. I got a note from the council acknowledging the work-order raised to sort out the wallpaper and damp in the hallway and bedrooms, but they have a deadline of November 3rd... :-( I imagine they'll find some way to delay it even further. In the meantime I've decided to use my day off stripping the living room walls before painting them, since there's no way I can talk the council into doing it for me. Bloody room's been half-decorated for over three years as it is!
On a happy note, I'm going to a Queen concert with Robert a week Tuesday! *squees* I can't wait! Last time I saw them was in Hyde Park, when his wife was still pregnant with little Sophie. This time they're right here in my home town - though I do wish I had somewhere for Robert to crash the night. I'm not happy with the idea of him heading straight home to Staffordshire right afterwards, so he can be at work the next day :-/
Well, documentary's over and no Brian....well, maybe he'll be in the second part next week.
