So, the Loss Adjuster came by yesterday to look at the damage to my stuff and noted down the information I'd compiled on the names of my stuff (I have mostly IKEA and Argos, so I went through the catalogues) and how much they're currently retailing for.

She didn't really make any actual declarations on what was a total loss and what wasn't, so when the guys from ChemDry came back again this morning to clear out my bookcases and such, we weren't entirely sure what they could take away. They spent the morning diligently boxing up all my books and dvds - there's now a mountain of crates and boxes in a clear corner of Rowan's room, since it's the room with the least furniture and no fragments of soggy carpet. They're coming back again tomorrow, and hopefully we'll know what's what by then. If not, I have the LA's phone number. I have a sneaky suspicion that the email she promised me has been sent only to my work email address, rather than also cc'd to my home address - wouldn't normally be a problem, but I've pretty much given up on the idea of going into work this week, with all the repeat visits that have been necessary. The sooner this is sorted, the sooner I can get back in to the place.

I waited for the electrician from the council all afternoon yesterday, eventually giving up at five thirty - he apparently made it to me at around six, having had a number of emergencies at the other end of the estate. I then had to call up this morning to reschedule, and waited in all day for him today. Once the ChemDry guys had gone, I kept myself busy by clearing through the paper and general rubbish that could just be shoved in a binbag. It's times like this I'm grateful that council flats have a communal bin, else I would have had a stack of binbags piled up waiting till the trucks come round on Monday. Job's not done yet, and I expect I'll be continuing when I'm over there tomorrow.

The upside to this is that I should finally get shot of the bits and peices that, while I'm not hoarding them, I generally can't be arsed to get rid of. I usually come across these things when the urge to clean is fading. So they get shoved in a box or in a cupboard.

The electrician checked the plugs on all the possibly effected electricals, and advised me to leave them to dry for a bit before testing them. He then retripped the breaker on the fusebox, so the powerpoints are all now active again. I could have done that, since I've done it any number of times when an old lightbulb has given up the ghost and tripped the breaker in its death-throes, but I'm not stupid. Times like this you let the professionals get on with it.

Rowan's getting a bit of delayed shock about it all - he was quite distressed yesterday at the prospect of losing his bed, and that was still worrying him today. I had to take him back to the flat after school this afternoon, as the electrician still hadn't come, and there were some tears as he looked around, poor love. I've tried to explain that he hasn't lost anything that actually matters, but it's not sinking in. I think my best bet would be to try and avoid him seeing anything in the house till we've replaced whatever we replace. I can then take him in to a ready-sorted house, and deal with whatever residual fallout there is. I think it's the uncertainty that's getting to him.

Me, my coping strategy is to anticipate a possible shopping expedition to IKEA and Argos! ;-) *crosses fingers*
