Cooking fun
Aug. 4th, 2008 08:50 pmI decided over the weekend to have a go at adding those RSS feed things to my LJ, choosing as my starting point the cooking blogs my friend
fair_witness contributes to. They're a lot of fun to read! :-)
This evening, one of the blog entries was a 'Rookie Cook' video on how to do hard-boiled eggs. I started watching it, and Rowan abandoned his computer game to come watch it with me.
We subsequently watched all fourteen Rookie Cook episodes.
He's always been a little fascinated with cooking, as I think most kids are, and this last week or so he's been watching cookery shows with his Nan. One in particular he's very keen on is 'Step Up To The Plate', where a group of three amateur cooks challenge two Michelin star-level chefs to see who can cook up a specific three-course meal best. It's presented by Anton Du Beke, one of the dancers from 'Strictly Come Dancing' - which is odd, but he's actually not too bad - and the person they have to impress is none other than Lloyd 'Who Lives In A House Like This?' Grossman, who has made quite a name for himself in fine cuisine.
I'm ashamed to admit I rarely have the patience to let him help me out in the kitchen - though when I do, he often gets bored and wanders off to watch TV anyway. But he's getting older now, and should get easier to direct. And if he at least heads off to college knowing how to make pasta in sauce? I think I will have done of my parental jobs right! ;-)
Oh, and Mel? That cooking community I was telling you about last weekend is
geek_cooks - seriously, check it out.
