What I did today
Nov. 25th, 2007 09:01 pmSo...today could have been much more awkward than it was.
Those who bother to pay attention will know that Rowan has football practice on a Sunday morning, before being collected by his father and grandfather for an afternoon visit at my in-laws' house twenty miles up the Valleys.
My father-in-law had to work today, so he couldn't come get him, and you already know what excuse Rowan's dad gave for not bothering to see him.
Now, Rowan has a habit of refusing to go to football if he finds out his Dad's not collecting him. I don't know why exactly, but that's how it is with him. So I had to try and get him to go, without letting him know I'd be the one collecting him today. Somehow I managed this, though he did query why I hadn't packed a change of shoes into his bag.
There were only four boys turned up today - it's a new class, and it's heading into Winter, so there's been some fallout - so the coaches decided only to have a half session. I headed back after about forty-five minutes to fetch him, and watched them wrap up the little game they were playing. There was a little protest from him when the session finished early, about how his Dad wasn't there yet, but I managed to distract him with the promise of going bowling and that was that! *relief*
Once we'd popped home for a change of trousers and shoes, we jumped on a couple of buses down to the Bay and headed for the Hollywood Bowl. We played two games, then went into Oriental Garden for lunch. I love it there - we both get as much food as we want, plus dessert! We walked it off around the Bay, and discovered a small craft fayre type-thingy inside the Millennium Centre. I was also amused to discover that the section of Mermaid Quay where Coffee Mania is situated (right above the 'Tourist Office') is called Tacoma Square. Those who understand my obsession with Seattle will understand. *grins*
I was rather disappointed to find my Welsh cake shop has closed! *pouts* No fair!
All in all, the day was pretty successful. There was no tantrum of any kind from Rowan about not seeing his Dad today. *looks smugly satisfied*
