Fairly busy weekend as usual; Rowan had gym class on friday evening after school. Second time he's gone, and this time went much better. Last week he didn't want to leave me for the first half hour, and then spent the next little while running back to me any time they did an exercise he didn't want to do (usually the ones that required him to stick his bum in the air! lol!) Of course, once they started using the balance beam and trampette? He was so there!

This week his friend Lucy - whom he's known since they were babies - was able to go along too, so he had no problem joining in from the very start. He made some very decent attempts at the floor exercises, as did Lucy, though the teachers had to separate the two of them after about ten minutes 'cause they kept distracting each other and playing around *giggles* I was reminded of when he was nearly three, and we visited [livejournal.com profile] vespurrs and her twins, the way he and Lucy were rolling around on the mats together! I'm pleased to note that the teachers were very pleased with Rowan though - maybe this is something he can develop. Who knows.

Saturday was the usual shopping trip with Mam - this time to the Makro cash-and-carry place up in Treforrest. This is one of those membership-only places, usually limited to businesses. I think they relaxed the criteria for membership recently, but you still need to be one to get in. And none of the prices include VAT - which is something that winds me up since I can't do the maths. Tim tried to explain to me today a handy way to figure it out, but my brain just goes "No! Mental equations! DOES NOT COMPUTE!"

Probably a good thing I don't live in the US, as the sales tax would kill me!

We were going to go to Techniquest as well, but for the second Saturday in a row Mam wasn't feeling up to it. Possible side-effect of her new meds, in the form of an unrelenting headache *sigh*

Today Rowan went up to the in-laws, and I went into town to meet Tim for lunch. We went to China China, which is an all-you-can-eat chinese buffet (no, really? You thought it was Indian? *joke*) located in what used to be the Guildhall Tavern. This was a bar where a large bunch of us used to meet up for weekly Sci-fi club meetings, and is where I was first introduced to Tim, my comicstore-buddy Kristian and several other friends (Eleven years ago now...Iesu...). We were their main source of custom it seemed - on Tuesday nights at least - and they decided it was a good day to hold their pub quiz, since they had such a good turn out. We stuck it out for maybe two weeks, then the following week got up and walked out as they started. *laughs* The look of dismay on their faces as about twenty people got up and left....priceless!

Anyway - the food was very, very nice, though the canteen style layout irritated a little. I had two platefulls, as I am such a pig, and Tim barely finished his one helping before we had a tiny dessert each. Normally when I have a buffet meal I find myself eating less than I normally would when presented with a set plate, coming away nicely satisfied, but not this time it seems! *sigh* I could feel it heavy in my stomach for the rest of the afternoon/evening, though the walk around town we had afterwards did help matters considerably. We were thinking of taking a ride on the new Water Bus down the Taff to the Bay, but it didn't seem to be running. There was certainly no schedule posted. So we ended up walking back through town, bumping into some of Tim's friends (techincally mine too, as I knew them from the Sci-fi group) and chatting for a while before going into Starbucks, where I introduced Tim to the wonder that is a hot chocolate with peppermint *numm!* Though after last night's conversation in the chatroom I hope they introduce the Mocha Valencia here, so I can try it with orange syrup for a change!

Though knowing my luck, [livejournal.com profile] lithera wasn't talking about Starbucks - despite living in Seattle! *grins*

Gah - rambled on enough for now. Once I've sorted out my laundry I'm going to bed, though I'll be watching a video for the first little while. Tim lent me his copy of the Sarah-Jane christmas special, but it also includes the last two episodes of Torchwood! *squees* I so want to see them again.

I also need to watch the DVD [livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum is letting me borrow, but I haven't quite been in the right headspace for that film yet.
