gothams3rdrobin: (Josh and blankie)
It's the same every time Rowan spends the night at my mothers. I really should take advantage of the chance to go to sleep without any possible disturbance, but instead the house is just too damn quiet. Even when he's asleep I know he's just on the other side of the hall.

So here I am at midnight, reading fanfic 'cause that's about all my brain can cope with, and watching my Sports Night dvds.

Today was a teacher-training day at Rowan's school, so I had to take the day off work. We had a slow morning before heading into town to run a few errands, though I didn't get to also take him to the pictures like I'd planned. Needed to have gotten my arse in gear earlier in order to acheive that.

First we headed up the road to the Housing Office, 'cause not only have they not shifted the two bikes outside my door, but a third has also joined them. This, frankly, is taking the piss. However, the office was shut. I know not why.

So we caught the bus into town, with the intention of walking back out of town in the opposite direction in order to get to the regional office of the Open University, with whom I am studying French. I needed to resubmit my application for financial assistance, and wanted to actually speak to someone regarding the reason why it got posted back to me last week. This, of course, is one of the bits of paperwork my horoscope alluded to yesterday.

Before we could do that, however, we had to pop into Pizza Hut for dinner at the rugrat's request. I've found it's somewhat cheaper - and less wasteful - to go for the buffet option; that way we both get to eat as much as we need of whatever topping we prefer. He'll tell you he likes ham and pineapple, but he picks off the pineapples and gives them to me! *chuckles* So he had two slices of plain cheese and tomato and a slice of garlic bread, while I had five different toppings and the rest of the garlic bread. I was quite happy to stop there, and he didn't want anymore either, so we both walked away satisfied. It's nice to be able to have both ham and mushroom and vegetarian pizza without having to either negotiate with my dinner companion or pay through the nose for separate, whole pizzas.

On the way back from the OU office, some very kind motorist decided to completely drench me from head to foot. I'm convinced it was deliberate because, seriously? That puddle could not have caused a five foot splash without the car being aimed at it, at speed. So I then had to go and get some clean trousers 'cause I anticipated needing to stay out in town for a few hours yet and there wasn't time to pop home.

As it turns out, I didn't have to stay out in town all evening, but that's my shoddy memory for you! I knew something was happening involving us and my mother tonight, and I assumed it was related to the Winter Wonderland fairground thingy in the civic centre. It's a regular thing every Christmas these days. However, the actual plan involved Rowan staying overnight with his grandparents, and doing the Winter Wonderland tomorrow - weather permitting. Guess that's a good thing as it certainly wasn't being very permissive tonight!

So here I am, being rather foolish and distracting myself from sleep the only way my tired brain will allow.

In good news, I got recced on [livejournal.com profile] crack_van for my Sports Night music video! *bounces happily* Thank you so much, Hilary!

Plus there was a very interesting article in the South Wales Echo tonight, which is also up on the icWales website - though alas without the very adorable photograph.

This is about my youngest neice Katie, who has apparently lost her furry companion! I feel awful for her, but I also can't help being a little amused. I don't know if I'd go to quite the same lengths if Rowan had ever lost his bear, Bobo (Don't kill me [livejournal.com profile] thaya_rayal!)

EDT: Oh, and here's one for the Torchwood/John Barrowman fans;
