I love three-day weekends, though have you noticed how they always seem to go even faster than regular weekends?

Mam was working in the store on saturday, so it was just me and the rugrat. We had a very lazy morning, then I was going to take him out after lunch. We arranged this on the proviso that he would put away the jigsaw book he'd been playing with, while I cooked.

Nearly three hours later he tells me he's put them away properly. When I say to him "Okay, so if I go check they'll all be put away properly?" he assures me they will. I go and check and, surprise surprise, they're not on their respective pages and further investigation reveals them to be hidden under the sofa.

So he gets sent to his room with a smacked backside, and I put them all away myself before hiding the book in my bedroom. I then vacuum the living room so I can ignore his pleas of "Please can I come out of my room, Mummah?" before I make tea and begin the bedtime routine. He spend quite a while griping about not getting to go down the park, but I just kept reminding him he was supposed to put his toys away first.

On Sunday he went up to see my in-laws, giving me the first opportunity in a fortnight to put his toys back in their respective cupboards and boxes in his room. I kept some of the things he's no longer bothering with in the packing boxes, leaving him room for whatever he aquires at christmas time.

Today Mam and I took him down the bowling alley, 'cause the weather didn't seem quite reliable enough for the park or the beach. Mam managed to convince him to try bowling without using the little slide-thingy, so his score was half what it normally is but he still did really well. He did manage to get his ball trapped between the gutter and the bumper though...*chuckles* We had to call one of the staff to come rescue it for us. Mam also managed to overbalance and fall over backwards, hurting her left leg, so she was feeling sorry for herself after that.

When the games were done we went to Pizza Hut for some food. Rowan wanted to have some ice-cream from the 'Ice Cream Factory', but it was both out of ice cream and had broken down, apparently. He got very tearful about this, but we placated him by promising him some ice-cream from the parlour five minutes down the Bay from the resteraunt. When we got there, we found a small fairground and market stall so, ice-creams in hand, we went to explore. We bumped into my brother and his family, and I shared a little of my chocolate ice-cream with my one-year-old neice Katie - who promptly spat it out! *chuckles* Didn't stop her continuing to eye our tubs with that 'you will share that with me, won't you' expression babies have.

I bought some soaps in the market, one lavender and one lily-of-the-valley, while Mam got some irish chocolates. We also admired a very impressive sand sculpture of a horse with a mermaid-like tail (as opposed to an actual Seahorse), a picture of which I will upload once I download it from my camera. And naturally Rowan had a go on a few of the rides; Mam and I even joined him on one, which was simulating a tugboat being tossed about on the waves.

We ended up back at my parents house for tea, and didn't get home till almost eight. Rowan got bundled straight to bed, since it was past his bedtime, and I watched the coverage of the All*Star Cup 'cause I want to use it as the basis for a story I'm working on. I've kept forgetting it was on, since golf doesn't interest me, but I'm hoping I'll find reports on it on the 'net that will help me with the actuall sporting details... *crosses fingers*

Meh, back to work tomorrow. Rowan's got the week off before he starts school next wednesday *sighs for a multitude of reasons* and Mam's gonna be looking after him. Wish I had the time off too...
