We went down to the beach again today. This time high-tide was at noon so there wasn't an awful lot of beach at Whitmore Bay for most of the morning. This is actually a pretty good thing as it meant Rowan could play at the water's edge while Mam and I watched from under our parasol.
We got there at about ten thirty, when it was quiet and not excessively hot, and didn't leave till gone one o'clock. By this time the tide was on its way back out and the sand was getting hot enough to scorch. We had a great time and Rowan was in and out of the water like a yo-yo once it sunk in he had permission to get his t-shirt wet. Reminded me of a holiday we took in Devon when he was two, where he was leaning over to play in a sandpit till we told him he could get in if he wanted. He'd gingerly put one foot in and looked up at us, saying "Okay?" - just to check! *laughs*
I took advantage of the high-tide to make a working moat for his sandcastle. He was very impressed when I got it to fill with water - man, I haven't done that in years!
I managed to burn my feet last week, so I'm hoping I haven't made it worse today. I have to be extremely careful to keep Rowan coated in sun-block 'cause of his complexion, but I rarely bother to do so myself. As a result I've been practically bathing in after-sun and Calamine lotions, and my feet have been itching like hell! But at least Rowan's come away unscathed.
When we got back to my parents place afterwards, Mam filled up the paddling pool out in the back garden and he played out there for a while. I listened to my mp3 player with one ear while keeping an eye on him.
The good thing about days like these is that he's sufficiently entertained that he pretty much behaves himself for the entire day. Bathtime has gone without any incident for the last two saturdays in a row - I just hope I can get it to be like that for the rest of the week too! He was half asleep when it was time to get in, but unlike me a bath doesn't tend to make him sleepy so he didn't go down like a light after Doctor Who for a second week running *sigh* I suppose it was a little too much to hope.
Doctor Who was really wierd tonight, though I thoroughly enjoyed it. I recognised several locations, which is cool, but was left with a mental image I really didn't need....*chuckles* I'll let everyone else who watches find out for themselves what I mean.
This weekend has a couple of birthdays: Rachel's was yesterday, and today it's Hilary's. Penblwydd Hapus to you both! *grins* I have to say, I think Hilary should have a birthday everyday - at whichever age she chooses to be, naturally - 'cause it's prompted some pretty awesome Sports Night stories!
And as soon as
catwalksalone is ready to post her BDSNT, I shall be saving it to Word, posting a copy to my email address at work, and taking my laptop to bed with me straight away so I can read as much as I possibly can in one sitting. If I'm forced to call it a night before I'm done, I will then read some more at work! *grin*
There's a really cracked Bette Midler/Shelley Long film from the eighties on the tv right now, where they're being chased by the guy who plays the Vice President in 'Commander In Chief'. The man has not aged too well...
