*Trying to wake up*
Sep. 2nd, 2005 07:05 amHow on earth am I up so early?
Well, okay. It's not actually all that early, I'm just not used to being up at seven am. So I'm here on the computer trying to wake up. I've washed my hair, eaten my breakfast, fed the cat - I just need to iron some clothes for work and make my lunch.
The whole reason I'm up so early is that I had to put my alarm on a very loud buzz last night, 'cause I needed to be able to hear it from my son's bedroom. Which is where I slept last night.
See, I've been getting floods into my bathroom from upstairs for the last two weeks, and I'm waiting for the council to come 'round and fix it. But, in the meantime, there's damp seeping into the ajoining rooms.
Including my bedroom.
I came down with a cold last monday, and I've been waking up feeling like death warmed over ever since, though I've been somewhat better by the evenings. But yesterday morning I noticed there were little black marks on the wallpaper in my room, on the wall adjoining the bathroom. Which is also the wall against which my bed is situated.
So I asked my parents if they wouldn't mind letting Rowan sleep in their spare room for the next couple of nights. He has a habit of getting up in the middle of the night, and if my suspicion was correct and this damp was making my cold worse, it wouldn't be long before it started affecting him too. There was no way I could 'move out' for the duration, since someone needs to feed the cat, so I'm sleeping in the baby's room for the duration.
And this morning I feel one hundred percent more human than I have all week, despite only getting about four hours sleep. I still have a cold, but just the niggly kind that I'm used to ignoring.
The council have a work order in place to come sort it out, and their deadline is Sept 5th. So if I don't hear from them by monday I am gonna raise holy hell.
Oh, and I'd just like to say, I have no idea how Rowan manages to sleep with that ticking clock on his wall...
