So, the Doctor Who Christmas Special

I know, I'm a loser. I only just finished watching it. I was just so tired yesterday I could barely bring myself to do anything.

Just in case anyone else hasn't seen it, here's a handy dandy lj-cut

I see why my Dad's gotten frustrated with the series - most especially the way the TARDIS is being used. He complained to me about the scene along...I think that's a composite of the M4 between Cardiff and Newport, and the flyover down the Bay they use a lot in Torchwood. And Phaed? I totally had the same thought as you - how would they explain that to their insurer? *grins* I thought it was just 'cause of my occupation that it tickled me....

I was dreading the show 'cause I can't stand the stuff Catherine Tate does. It wasn't all that bad, thankfully, but she did play a very annoying chav as usual.

Not got a lot to say about the story, as it was rather unoriginal. I think London's gonna wonder what the hell's going on, with this wierd stuff happening every Christmas for the last few years. *rolls eyes* However, in my usual habit of Cardiff-spotting as I watch, I was very very amused to see them trying to hail a taxi outside Howells department store. Anyone who pays attention will remember it's the very same store Rose was working at originally, and got blown up in the very first of Christopher's episodes! I'm well impressed they can rebuild a Victorian building so perfectly... ;-)

And interesting to note we aquired a new cash machine and telephone booth in the side street around the corner, which incidentally is nowhere near WHSmiths.

All in all disappointing, but it brought me some amusement from a local standpoint. I did love how much the Doctor's missing Rose though.

Judy was watching it downstairs (I don't watch Doctor Who), and all I could hear from up here was Catherine Tate shrieking. I don't think I missed much.

I'm not a big fan of Catherine Tate either, but I liked her in this episode. In fact, I liked the whole thing. I thought they showed the Doctor's pain and sadness very well, and his fear of being alone. I loved that Donna turned him down and the reasons she gave - I think we get so much of people either loving or hating the Doctor it was interesting to see someone who liked him, but could see him clearly, darkness and all.

Why was your Dad complaining about the motorway scene? The TARDIS is a machine that moves in time and space. All it was doing was moving in space in the present time. I can't see anything wrong with that. Of course, there is absolutely NO subtlety and a blue police box whizzing down the motorway is going to result in news reports all over the shop. But the Doctor isn't exactly undercover, is he?
